Hi there, this is unfortunately due to the blu ray laser becoming faulty. It is a very common problem with the PS3, I have suffered it myself and repair lots of consoles that have suffered with it.

All is not lost however as there are some options available to you.

Firstly the cheapest option is to try and use a cd cleaning disc and see if cures your problem. Dirt or dust on the lens can cause read failures and sometimes this can help.

Secondly, if the PS3 is under warranty with Sony still you can send it back to them and they will replace your PS3 with a fully refurbished unit.

Thirdly you can try and replace the drive. Not a difficult job as drives are available on ebay for around £50. The only thing you have to bear in mind when swapping drives is you have to keep the original logic board that is screwed onto the drive in your current PS3. It sounds more complicated than it is but if you google PS3 drive replacement you will find lots of helpful videos and guides out there.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Most likely a problem with the reader on the CD/DVD Drive.

Very easy to swap out a different CD/DVD Drive. Add the new device and see if that resolves the issue.

No recognize disks CD and formats MP3

I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.

Unfortunately, if the player will no longer read any commercial cd that you attempt to play or MP3 disks, the unit is defective and needs to be replaced. The unit has a 90 day warranty from the date of purchase. You will need the receipt in order to receive a warranty exchange.

If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

Where are you looking to recognize the disks? if it is in my computer in Windows it would most likely be because the Roxio software was what was recognizing the disks. generally Windows does not do a very good job of recognizing blank disks. I would look at the disk information in your current CD burning software and see what that says.

Doesn't recognize any disks

I updated my firmware from 1413 to 1416 found on avforums. This is for european units. I suggest you also complain to Toshiba Japan as there are known issues with the xs32. We all need a firmware update. See AVforums.

My unit will not recognise RAM discs anymore - even those that I had previously used.

Have you thought of replacing the DVD drive. See AVforums.
