The dryer is making a terrible squealing sound. Believe it to be a belt. Do I get to it through the back of the dryer?

Dryer runs for a short period then starts to sqeal from the back and when you stop it and open the door you can smell a burning smell .

sounds like a bad belt and or pulley. If you take the top of the dryer off you can use a piece of candle wax to lube the belt and see if that makes the squealing stop to verify the belt/pulley as the source of the squeal. If so, you can but a new belt and pulley kit for about $30 and replace yours. Good Luck!

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

Though I believe the issue is bad/worn out/broken belt and needs replacement however, you can check this video on how to replace the belt & how to take it apart for greasing:

Maytag electric dryer is making a high pitched noise

The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

My dryer makes a squealing sound when running. I believe it's the belt on the tensioner pulley, but I have no idea how to get to the darn thing.

There is no easy way, but its more time consuming really. I'm not familiar with your particular dryer, but you''ll need to remove the top and front casing of your dryer and remove the drum to get to the pulley. Sometimes you can get to it via a compartment on the rear of the dryer as well. Also listen to make sure the squealing isn't coming from the drum bearings on the rear of the drum.

Sqeals terribly, stops squealing occasionally, but is very loud and high pitched.

Squealing comes from the belt. I replaced my belt and it went away. Good luck in trying it.

Dryer squeals terribly awful from back of dryer, seemingly somewhere between the rubber rollers. ( drum)

there are bearings or a bearing behind the tub, need too make sure you unplug power cord first . then open the top and front so you can get a look at it. bearing is in the center back behind tub. this should get you started !!! sounds like a little grease will take care of it . good luck !!!!!!

Frigidaire dryer model # FDEB34RGS2 Squeaking

There is a tension pulley that holds pressure on the belt, as well as wheels that the drum sits on. A drop of oil on the bearing of each one should solve the problem, unless the wear has gotten too far, and need replacing.

Squeeky noise

I own a Frigidaire Heavy Duty Dryer The Model # is FDE436RES1. It is 10 years old. When running the dryer it makes a very loud squealing noise although the heat and the dryer still work. Is this a belt or roller problem or does it sound like something else. It is very high pitched and can be heard throughout the entire home. I do not know much about dryer troubleshooting so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
