Question about Maytag PAV5157A Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Whenever the tub is moving, whether spining or agitating, it makes a squeaking/clicking sound. The sound comes and goes, sometimes worse than others. It doesn't seem to matter if it is pumping out water or not. I can't find any movement in the bearings, can't find anything rubbing, nothing is loose.

SOURCE: washing machine problem

Patrich, basket spinning while agitating has to do with the brake system. You either have a broken brake spring, defective brake rotor, defective brake liner or warped stator. There are special tools needed to perform the repair as the spring is under a lot of pressure and could cause injury if not experienced. Catriver.

SOURCE: Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.

SOURCE: Agitator not working on Maytag PAV2300

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the transmission in your unit is bad,it has internal gears and the ones involved in the agitation are broke or bad, to replace the transmision is a lengthy process, your best bet is to just scrap it and get a new washer. I don't know if you know this but maytag company is no longer in business. They were purchased by Whirlpool back in November of 2006. One of the reasons is all the poor quality of their appliances. I am a technician that has been doing this for 15 years. The best unit I have seen to date is the Whirlpool Duet. I hardly ever have to work on them. Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.

Your Belt still needs replacing or to be scuffed up with sand paper. If thes fails you need either new tub bearings or a transmission. either a 250-300.00 repair so tr the belt and rotate drain pump rotation while the belt is off

Hoover 2300L 6.okg boss. Squeaking when agitating back& forth, not when spinning. Is this a bearing problem? & is it replacable. If so, from where in south australia? Or wherever.?

Washing machines don't usually run silently, but in most cases, a squeaking noise that occurs while the washer is agitating the clothing is not normal and signifies a problem. If the noise only happens when the washing is agitating, the problem is likely connected to the motor or your water pressure. Depending on the specific cause, you may feel comfortable fixing it yourself. Otherwise, call a professional.

The Agitator
  • Agitators are located in the center of the drum, or basket, of top-load washing machines. Front loading washing machines do not use agitators -- instead, gravity moves the clothes from the top of the drum to the bottom. Agitators usually consist of a tall cone fitted with arms at the base. The purpose of the agitator is to rotate the clothes and soapy water around the tub to clean the clothes. The agitator itself is not usually the cause of the squeaking noise. It is powered by the drive mechanism, which consists of a motor, clutch and gears.
Motor Problems
  • A repetitive squeaking noise during the agitation cycle may signify a problem with the motor. Specifically, the belt on the motor may be wearing out. Some motors use rubber couplers, which also wear out easily. The belt is necessary for the agitator to turn, but over time, it wears thin, just like the belts in your car's motor. An easy way to test for this problem -- if you're handy -- is to take the belt off the motor and then run it. If the squeaking noise stops, the problem is indeed your belt. Of course, this means your agitator won't move. Replacing the belt should fix the problem.
Water Pressure Issues
  • The tub, or drum, fills with water right before the agitator turns on, and water continues to circulate throughout the washing process. As the tub fills and water circulates, you may hear a squeaking or squealing noise if you have high water pressure. This sound is caused by the force of the water moving through the pipes. To adjust this, turn the knobs on the hot and cold valves on the pipes that go into your washing machine.
Considerations
  • New washing machines may squeak at first as the parts "warm up," according to the GE Appliances website. The noise should disappear after five complete washing cycles have run on the machine. Unbalanced loads, overly heavy loads and loose items in the drum may also cause noise when the agitator comes on, but these things usually do not produce a squeaking sound.

My camaro squeaks really loud whenever i turn the steering the wheel left or right whether I'm moving or sitting still. It sounds like it's coming from both sides of the front end.

tie rod ends dry? this kind of thing is easily found if one person moves the wheel and the other listens and/or feels the different front end components. loud squeaks are generally accompanied by vibration which is hard to miss if you get down close to it.

Kenmore Elite 22982 Squeaks during agitation

I'm pretty sure what you are hearing is the outer tub sliding on the bottom frame. There are three tub wear pads located around the top of the frame between the tub and the frame. Click on this http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=334620&SourceCode=8 these are the parts that I think you will need. You can click on the parts select home at the top right of the page and it will take you to their home page. There you can enter your complete model number and it will bring up diagrams of your machine . Once you find these part the diagrams willshow you where these parts go. Good luck.

GE Washer Model WJRR4170E4WW squeaks while agitating

There are four suspension rods that the tub hangs on. When the washer is agitating the tub will rock back and forth and the rods will move back and froth as well. To fix this noise, lift up in each rod and put some lubricant in the cup that the rods fit into at the top of the washer.

Note that it is best if you use a lithium-based lubricant rather than silicone based lubricant.

Where is the agitator in a Indesit WG1385

Open machine's rear panel and remove belt. Check if motor spins (when it should, as per cycle stage). If motor is spining - Move tub manually and check for smooth spin In case it doesn't spin smoothly - maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub and prevent tub's spining. If this is the situation, you should remove it. In case motor doesn't spin- Check with multi-meter if it get power. If it get power - The problem is with the motor. Good luck !!

My washer does not wash the clothes or go through the spin cycle.

It sound like a belt problem. Try to move tub manually first, in case it move smoothly -open the front panel, the belt should be between the motor and the drive pulley (lower front). In case it torn or not in its place, you should replace it. In case it doesn't move smoothly - maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub and prevent tub's spining. If this is the situation, it should be removed. Good luck !!
