OK, if your laptop is the one on this web page

then it has a 939 Socket and an explanation of which processors that will fit your motherboard are detailed at this web page

without knowing whether you bios supports a dual core processor looks like the Athlon 64 FX at up to 2.8GHz will suit your needs

If this helps please rate me

When cleaning my compaq presario sr1620nx,I removed the cpu fan& everthing behind it. Now that's the only thing that works. What the heck!!?

A) Did you FOLLOW Anti-Static Procedures?

If you are not aware of Anti-Static Procedures post back in a Comment.

B) Did you bump a Ram Memory module ('Stick') loose, or more than one?

Following Anti-Static Procedures, remove all Ram Memory modules, and clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser.
There is a procedure for this; if interested post back in a Comment.

To KNOW that the Ram Memory module/s are seated correctly, and tightly; is to remove it/them, and reinstall.
This way you are Assured. Visual inspection alone will NOT do.
Plus you have cleaned the contact pins at the same time.

C) Power Supply's are evil..........
They wait until that ONE unsuspecting moment, and when your back is turned they shoot [email protected]

At least that is the way I'm sure it appears to some people

LED's light, and fans spin?

I don't care

A) If ALL of the LED's were lit up at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power

B) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power

C) A typical Processor (CPU) can use Up To 130 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

HP Support > Compaq Presario SR1620NX Desktop PC > Main Support page,

Product information > Product specifications > Compaq Presario SR1620NX Desktop PC Product Specifications,

Processor (Base Processor):
AMD Sempron 3400+

Motherboard uses the Socket 939 processor socket.

Cuts the list down to one..........
Palermo Core technology, and the 90NanoMeter architecture,

Up To 65 Watts

Static shocked?
Not much to say

Ram Memory procedure didn't do the trick?
Then suggest checking Power Supply,
Or using a temporary Power Supply.

To check is to test the 3 main voltage power rails, with a multimeter set to DC Voltage;
See if there is a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply you can use for a temporary test unit.

NOT stating rush out, and buy a replacement unit.
Stating test first.

I have a persario sr1620nx, the on board video went out, i need to install a video card, but i do not know what type to buy? looking for assistance. please help

Go to this website for specs.

There's also an x16 PCI Express slot for users who want more graphics horsepower than the onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chip affords.

Ok so i want to put a dual-core processor in to my compaq presario sr1620nx 2005... but i dont know if this is possible.... anyone knows if i can or cannot. i need a 2.5 ghz to play SC2 so im desperate...

The specs for the motherboard used in this computer are here. It's a socket 939 board, which is outdated now and there aren't a lot of processors available. Here's one, but it doesn't get the 2.5 GHz speed you want. So the answer is yes, you can install a dual-core processor, but you probably shouldn't.

You would be better off to replace both the motherboard and processor together so you can pick from current processors. Here is a typical combo offer with a 3.0 GHz dual-core that is only about $20 more than the processor linked to above.

The downside to upgrading this way is that you normally can't stop with just the motherboard and processor. Your current memory won't fit on the new board, so that'll need to be replaced. Then you'll need to replace the power supply as well. The supplies used in machines like this Presario don't offer the capacity the new board and processor need for stable operation. And finally, if you're an avid gamer, the built-in video is usually inadequate. You'll be looking at a new video card too.

At least the case and peripherals would still be useable, so you can put all your new parts into your current box. Unless you want something flashier to go with all the new innards. You'll also need to reinstall Windows, since the current installation probably won't run on the new system. A fresh installation would be the fastest way to get up and running. This means hunting up a Windows CD for the version currently running; at least you can reuse your product key, although you'll almost certainly wind up activating Windows over the phone. (My experience has been that when using the OEM key with such a new system, the Internet activation usually fails. The automated phone system asks you how many computers you're running this copy on, so you can just answer "one", which is the truth.)

Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but this is the way to get a machine that will do what you are looking for. Thanks for using Fixya!

Pentium 1.80 or pentium 2.8..I just recently got hired and I was told I need Pentium (4) 2.8 GHz or equivalent. I have Pentium 1.80 GHz (the numbers are confusing me once again)...thank you!

The Compaq Presario SR5410F has a dual core processor running at 1.80 GHZ
Dual core means that it is actually two processors running at that speed so you easily pass the Pentium 4 2.8 benchmark as shown in this table. the E2160 processor is not shown but the E2180 is close enough for you to get the idea compared with the lowly P4 2.8

Want to up grade my cpu and ram to improve speed and program use.

Question#1 is my current processor duel core or single core , how can I know?

Intel Celerons are Single Core. You can also download and run CPUID (free) from No installation needed either , just run it!

Question#2 What kind of duel core processor in combination with new ram should I install?

I dont think your computer supports dual core. I cannot be sure without you giving me the make and model of the motherboard. Besides , a 3.33ghz Celeron D is a great processor!!!!

Memory - See you can have a max of 2gb. You have 2 slots on the motherboard so its 1 gb per slot and the board takes DDR2 PC2-5300.

Here , you can expand to your max of DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb (2x1gb) for $24 and theres free shipping too!!!
