JVC Model DR-MV7SU Doesn't Play

Hello, My JVC model DR-MV7SU suddenly won't play anything. I've tried several different DVDs and I get one of two error messages, either "unknown disc" or "no disc". Any thoughts? Thanks, Mike

    I have the same problem.

I've been very happy with this unit for 12 months.

It's been easy to use and makes good quality DVD's.

Now I just get a "No Disc" message which makes me think that something failed. Any suggestions for a fix?

I haved the same problem where many DVD's won't play even after cleaning them. Many times it will start to work If I force the unit off by holding the power button in for several seconds, and then unplugging the JVC DR-MV7SU for about 3 minutes, and then plugging it back in. I have had the JVC DR-MV7SU since 10/23/06 and have had this problem since the one year warranty expired. I called JFC several months ago and they said that they never heard of this problem and that I should unplug it so that it reverts to the initial factory settings.

On or about December 15, 2006, I purchased a JVC DVD Recorder / Video Cassette Recorder, Model Number: DR-MV7SU.

In the time that I have had this unit I have used the DVD player unit at most 15 times to play only newly purchased DVD movies and at most 5 commercial VHS taped movies.

However, on April 20, 2009, I tried to watch a new DVD movie that I purchased on even date and the DVD movie would not play in its stead a message appeared on my Sony LCD Digital Color TV screen, which read "No Disc". I tried DVD discs that previously played on the DVD unit, but now I get the same message when I try to play those DVD movie discs.

If you are what I have typed above and you have a solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate your input.

I have two other DVD players, (not recorders), that I have owned for over 7 years and I have never had any problem with them, of course I perform preventive maintenance on all of my audio and video equipment which keeps them looking and operating like new, except for the JVC unit mentioned herein.

In addition, I have browsed the web and found that many people that purchased the JVC Model DR-MV7SU have encountered the same problem as I have. Many of these folks have contacted JVC product support, but to no avail. If you have been victimized by JVC's defective firmware in this unit and JVC has not made a goodwill effort to remedy this problem let's file a class action lawsuit against JVC, maybe the suit will light a fire under their ***** to manufacture quality products that are made overseas to sell to consumers in the USA. Appenrently JVC's quality control sucks.

If you would like to join me a filing a class action lawsuit against JVC you can email me at berryroof257@gmail.com.

Thanks for taking your time to read about my problem with this product.

SOURCE: my dvd player plays cds but wont play dvds says

Hello,

how long have you been using this player? The problem should be from the lens (laser).

The lens is weak and that's why it cannot read/load DVD's. The weak lens is also what's making it says "disc error" or "Unknown disc". It can still play Cd's because, Cd's does not contain large files, unlike DVD's.

Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one.

By so doing your player would play all DVD's with no problem at all.

Good luck.

Hello
Check all the belts in the vcr mechanism. Replace them all at one time. You can get it is kit form, from most of the electronc spare part shops at your town. Give them the model number of your device. They will select it for you. The fault is with elongated driving belts. OK.

I have a JVC DR-MV5S. When I dub a VHS to DVD,

The disk must be finalized. Instructions are on page 79 of the instruction booklet for the MV5S. I can't get the manual to download from the MVC site, but maybe it will work later. Hopefully you have the manual.

I recorded a dvd and it will not play in any other player.

You must finalize the DVD after recording it. If you post the model of the JVC device, I may be able to find out how to do this for you.
