Question about Canon imagePROGRAF W6400 InkJet Printer

COLOUR ON W6400PG

My printer produces dull images - the reds come out as faded pink etc. What do you think I am doing wrong? I use photoshop cs3 on Mac and have the paper profiles.

I've tried both the papers. I'm using satin and glossy papers by DCP systems who provided me with their profiles.

What paper are you using? If the paper is glossy, try matte settings to get a more saturated print

Why is my printer printing faded colours

Hi Kath,
I expect you have it sorted by now.
I think you might have had one off the developer tanks stuck or broken. If the developer roller does not turn then the colour quickly fades along the page. If you tried to do a test page and that was good then there was nothing wrong with that side of things.
Good luck.

MY CANNON PRINTER IP3600 IS PRINTING RED IMAGES IN PINK

go to Edit > Color Settings, how is Photoshop Elements currently set? The first thing I would do is try setting it to "No color management" and see if you get better results. If this works for you, you're in luck, because color management gets tricky. In settings "No color management" does not produce acceptable results, you will have to start reading up on color management and color calibrating your devices, particularly your printer. You might want to also read Photoshop Elements Help topic "To print using color management."Most graphics software has setting for color management, but personally, I have always gotten the best results by simply turning color management off. Color management is primarily intended for people in a pre-press environment. Not everyone needs it. If you're not doing professional printing, first try working without color management before you assume you need it.

Does an old PHD cause faded colors?

the PHD transfers the image to the printed page and when it starts to go bad the images can become dull or faded and even blurry or totally missing. Id recommend the PHD be replaced and it should resolve your issues.

Faded printing on 5x7 size paper

Sure. One of the papers is probably clay based (Shiny) and one is rag based (rough and dull). Clay based produces the most vibrant inkjet images and rag based produces the best laser printer images. I bet the two papers are different in composition. I see this all the time.

COLOUR PRINTING

A thermal printer will only print in black because it burns the image into the paper like a hot iron. It produces a black image because of the surface of the paper is coated. Usually the image fades or goes away after six months.

If you hade a label printer that uses color transfer ribbons, that would work if they have other colors available besides black. I don't know if that is an option with this particular model.

Kodak easyshare 5300 pics come out very dull with a green cast

Hi! I think there is some problem with colour adjustment of your printer. Under printer settings check out weather the cyan, magenta and yellow colors are all set to zero level and are at same position.
Also check out the exposure. And about dullness in the photographs i would suggest you to use a imaging software such as photoshop.

Colour Cast

Updated section
This red issue has been bugging me over the last week. I have now created over 50 A4 prints of my test file and it was after reading a post from Dan P that the answer came to me. I had been trying to correct the over saturated reds by reducing it in curves, levels and colour balance. Of course this was not the way to go, unless the image has an overall cast. The better method is to enter into Selective Colour within Photoshop and adjust just the red only. The values I have used are Cyan + 15 (this reduces the red), Magenta -5 (removes the remaining traces), Yellow +10 (removes the blue and warms up the skin again), Black -15 (lifts the image). Save the settings and reload them on future images. Create an action and use one of your Function keys to apply the Selective Colours. Incorporate the print command within the same action, this way you can be certain that the selective colour will be applied each time you print. This may not be the ideal solution, but for me it will do for the time being, until Canon come up with a new profile. I expect to make colour adjustments on most images and this is just one of those steps.
8500_06.jpg ink.jpg Use the Selective colour adjustment - it works The ink levels after 55 A4 prints - I don't think so final-test.jpg final-reels.jpg As near perfect as I can get it Reels are now spot on Note: The above solution is a work-a-round which cures the excess red, once you apply the Selective Colour adjustment the screen image will not look right. The adjustment is applied to correct the printed version. Like so many things digital (and analog) you have to make adjustments to suit your own preferences. The strong vivid colours produced by the ip8500 will appeal to some, others may want to tweak their settings.
As a final note, I have just looked at the ink levels after 55 A4 prints and wow, this printer only uses the light Cyan and Magenta, the rest of the colours are all unused. I don't think so somehow. Canon, I think this does indicate that you have a problem with the driver and have another look at the profiles while you are fixing that.
Would I buy this printer?
Given that creating a new profile is not a major problem and I am sure a new one will follow very shortly, then yes I would buy it. Using Photoshop I have managed to correct the colours to suit my taste, however, some may like the bolder colours out of the box. The ip8500 features and image quality makes this printer stand out from the competition.

Printing

Dont know much about the software side but the only thing I can think of in the printer itself that could cause that problem is the colour running out of alignment (run color alignment procedure on printer below)

you can perform a calibration by pressing the button to rotate the carousel and the green button at the same time, do this process at least 3 times on a row
