Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Moved a magnavox 51mp6200d/37 from one house to another. TV will turn off and flash a six-one code at the power button. Uplugging it might give me another few minutes, or a few days before it does it again.

I have not heard any clicking before it turns itself off.

I didn't find any loose connectors. I unplugged most of them anyway. 10 minutes after I turned it back on.... the 6 1 blinks again.

In that case the first thing I would try would be to take the back cover off and check whether any of the connectors(on the boards) have come loose or just unplug and re-plug all of them. This is one of the most common problems that occur during moving. If problem persists then let me know. Some of the connectors(like those on the sustain boards and buffer boards) are slightly tougher to remove. If you get stuck somewhere let me know and I will see you through this.
PS: Note that a plasma tv is High Voltage electronic device. Be sure to unplug before you begin. Do not touch components such as capacitors that can hold potentially lethal voltages for several days after the set is turned off. If you are not confident that you can do it yourself, then seek the advice of a qualified tv tech.As my mentor always says, your life and limb is worth much more than this.

6-1 means vertical deflection failure. Since you say the tv has been moved, I strongly suspect that there was some physical damage to the set and coolant leaking is the worst case scenario. Time for a call to a local tv tech unless you are highly skilled in HV electronics. You do not want mess with the deflection circuit without prior experience. If you want me to find you a tech in your area then please get me your zipcode.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

You will have to give the set out for service. This is not something you can service yourself.

This can be some failed components in the CRT bias and drive circuits, or maybe a CRT has failed. This has to be determined by taking measurements and doing some tests.

I believe that your set may have been manufactured by Philips.
