Question about Sony KP61XBR200 TV

Unsuccessful autofocus followed by E15R code--red curves out at corners

There were no warning signs. Powered up one day and the red convergence was terrible and the blue is possibly off. Looks 3D. The center is closest but horizontal lettering shows red shadow evenly below letters. Corners are drastically curved to outside. The red light somewhat resembles a bowtie shape in widescreen format. Any help would be appreciated seeing as how I live far from a repair shop. I am somewhat a diy but terminology and trade jargon I don't always know.

Tried magnet trick and red would move around. Afterward tried autofocus and could see green and blue align at cross, red never moved. But immediately following autofocus blue and green are misaligned again. How long until the magnetic field is corrected?

Are crt's replaceable by mortal man or require numerous solders instead of connectors?

  • ws6tester Jun 08, 2008

Will the blue and green correct back if I leave it off or leave it on? Or is this a new problem I created?

EKse sent me your problem. What the problem your experienceing is caused by are the convergence amps need to be replaced. Your model is one of the few that uses the STK392-020 convergence ICs they are located on the D Board mounted to tow large heat sinks. Also check the 4.7 Ohm 1/2 watt metal film resisitors that are all in a row under the fins on the heat sink as its very common for a few of these resistors to be open. you will also notice 6 pico fuses that will be either solid green or solid yellow check them as well as they are 3.5 amp fuses. You can get any of the parts that you need such as the replacement ICs and resistors at the following link they have free shipping and they will help you out with free instalation instructions with pictures. let me know if you need more assistance.

This clearly is a hardware side problem. Most likely the red crt tube is geting old - lazy - failing. and would need to be replaced.

allthought I'm not sure since I'm not fimiliar with this spesific model.

Here seems to be the service manual.

Your problem is on the component level, not fixable with a magnet on the screen.

There may be problem in CRT tube ....
you must and should visit the technician ...
he will fill the CRT tube again ....
this discoloration will be gone after that....

before that you can just try one trick ....
take a magnet and take it to the area where the discoloration is occurring & from that area just take the magnet to the corners or edge .....
by this the discoloration may go ....
try it .

Hitachi 43FDX01B green is out of whack

The green is not adjustable in the customer menu because it is considered the 'master' color. It is adjustable in the technician mode however but if it is curved it won't even adjust properly that way either. The problem is the convergence ampifier responsible for green convergence has failed. The convergence output IC's need to be replaced.

Top left corner double picture red and green

you have a failed IC resistor usually you can physically see the bad one because it burns out leaving you to guess what the value was. Hitachi offers a convergence fix kit which has 2 IC's and all approiate resistors.

Did you use the Automatica Convergence to try and straighten it out? If that does not help, you can manually adjust the convergence.

Convergence problem

Hi there!
You would need the manual to adjust the convergence. First to correct the curving and then to line up the colours. Not too sure wether you need a service remote or the one that came with the set. If no adjustment takes place when you adjust, replace the Convergence Amp IC'S. Good luck,JUS004
