What is the model of your car, year and how many miles do you have on it?

Normally they say you are to replace the belt within 80k miles with the "tune up" which some times if it doesnt look too cracked you can push it possibly another 10k or more miles but it's not a good idea since it keeps things on schedule and running smoothly. If you are handy with cars or know someone who is educated as a mechanic you can have them replace it for a simple $30 or more but just purchasing the proper belt for your car make, model, year. etc. That is what we did. Otherwise most places will charge you an arm/leg to have them replace it for you--we're talking $100 as high as $200!! for a $30+/- belt!

As far as the water pump you'd also have to verify that with a mechanic. There might be more tied to it then you think there is. Some places will offer you a free estimate [make sure they are trusted!] then you can run from there on what you might need in order to fix it or have a mechanic you know replace it. I'm sure it's most likely going to cost you well under $2K if you have a reliable source replace those items for you.

But most of the time you do not have to place one with the other. Those go within their own schedule times [belt] and others just go out on you [aka: water pump].
