Hi,

This is very common for the need to be recalibrated by a technician.
Possibly try to call or take it to a service centre anyway as this is usually when they get recalibrated. The fault is with the height of the feed dogs it is an internal adjustment that you tech. should make. As a guide if you can't see the majority of the front teeth above the plate or feel them with your finger then they are to low and need to be raised. Also check that the pressure of the sewing foot is set in the right position on the left side of the machine

Please get back to us if you have any further query or else accept the solution.

I have a bernina 730 and it does a fabulous straight stitch but it won't do zig zag or any ornamental stitches

Assuming this is the older mechanical Bernina 730 Record (not the new computerized model)...Sounds like your machine is seized due to dried oil.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Bernina 1630 Can't adjust stitch length - any ideas.

Hm, the 1630's are still mechanical machines with some electronics, right? Could be the mechanics have seized due to old oil solidifying and preventing things from moving like they should. This is the method I've used on completely mechanical Berninas that have seized. (Use caution in not getting oil on the computer components!)

I have often found the switch on the main board is faulty some dealers will try to repair it but most dealers will try to send in the board for repair

How do I change the needle position on my Bernina 1630?

Not sure, but if this is the one with the track ball, try pushing in on it to activate needle position.

Bernina 1630 needle will not move go side to side.

If you can pull the needle bar down manually and it springs back up, the basting clutch is stuck. By someone who knows how, it's a very easy fix. I would guide you here, but I don't know how to explain it. Plus, you have to be very careful not to damage the spring loaded clutch.

Bernina 1630

I have a Bernina Virtuosa so not the same machine - but this may help. There is an icon on the front of the machine - it is a needlepoint pointing at a dot in an oval - there are arrow buttons on either side. These move the needle left or right of center and it shows on LED screen. I checked mine just now and if you turn machine off and on it resets to center automatically. Hope this helps - Happy Sewing!!
