Question about Televison & Video

Pcj522r I think I do now. They were facing the side of the cabinet so you can not see them without taking out the board. Do you have to solder them in?

Hi,

An F11 code says there's lost communication between the CCU circuit board and the MCC circuit board. The true problem (and the basis for many other problems) is bad solder joints on the CCU circuit board. There are bad solder joints where the spade connectors and the relays (5 of them I think) are supposed to be securly soldered to the CCU board. The CCU is located in the machine, top, back, in a plastic case. The repair is fairly easy if your up on soldering techniques. If not, take out the CCU case with board and this response to a good appliance repair shop and they should be able to help you out. There should also be a technicians packet taped to the inside cabinet that is helpful in troubleshooting different problems. Just remove the panel under the door (three screws at the bottom of the machine) and it should be taped up on the side of the cabinet. Good luck.

KEF PSW 2500 Relay buzzing and audio output buzz

Have just repaired a similar problem with a KEF 2500 - relay was chattering at 50 Hz rate, buzz in speaker output.

Problem was caused by overheated / dried out Electrolytic filter cap (C52 - 47uF 63V) on the relay coil supply feed.
The overheating is caused by adjacent power supply dropping resistors which run very hot due poor design of power supply.

A service manual for a similar model is available at following link, refer to power supply section:-
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/35375/kef_psw2000.html

To replace,
1) remove chassis from speaker cabinet (8 screws), disconnect red/black speaker wires from main PCB spade connectors.
2) Remove 4 screws attaching main pcb heatsink assembly from face panel - lift assembly from faceplate (a bit messy , much heartsink compound between mounting faces)
3) unplug the AC 3 pin connections adjacent to the large capacitors and the 3pin connector on end of pcb (near C52), then roll assembly over the top of the audio sub-board to access underside of pcb.
4) solder connections to C52 is accessible at edge of board without further dis-assembly.
Take extreme care replacing C52, as the circuit board is of poor quality, (usual domestic electronics quality) being single sided copper without plated through holes.
The board is already heat damaged by heat buildup from power supply resistors, so the track will most likely lift and crack when disturbed- to counter this problem link the +ve capacitor pigtail to an adjacent solder pad on the same track.
Assembly is reverse of above, take care to preserve/ensure minimum disturbance of heatsink compound.

A user tip- don't leave unit switched on when not in use- heat buildup will eventualy cause it to fail due dried out electrolytic capacitors.
Poor power supply design is the main source of the standing heat buildup.

Velodyne SPL8R - same problem...

The first thing to do is unplug it, then pull the sub out of the cabinet, then pull the amp out of the cabinet. If you can take out the amp w/o taking out the sub, great. If there are any exposed printed circuit boards, look for dust buildup. Sounds like you've got alot of static energy built up in the internal electronics. If you have to disassemble the casing to get to the circuitry, do so, just do it carefully. Look at the boards. If there's alot of dust, get some printed circuit board cleaner.(pcb) cleaner found at Radio Shack. Then spray off the boards and the subs volume control as well as the crossover control. This will Not hurt any electronics.Re-assemble and test. If you still have noise: Take a careful look at the input side of the amps circuits and traces, if you have a magnafying glass it helps. What your looking for is a bad solder joint. You will see all the little dimples on the boards from soldering at factory. When you look at the solder point, look for a circular ring generally midpoint on the solder or right at board level. This can take some time, however, it's free and it's more than likely the problem. To fix a cold solder joint you need a fine point solder gun, just touch the point that is bad and it will re-seal, then test. Plug n Play. Hopefully it's just dust and you don't have bad solder joints. Velodyne makes an awesome product!, very rarely do I see problems with them. If you need some more help with this, post a comment and we can dig further. Hope this helps

That sounds like a solder issue on one of the CRT drive circuit boards. Check the CRT boards for bad solder joints especially on the socket connections.

Light faded out on face plate X590 kenwood

Here is the solution:
There are a series of surface mount resistors in the front right corner of the main board on the top side of the board. Front right while facing the unit looking in. Those surface mount resistors need to be resoldered, they are heat stressed. If you know how to solder, go ahead and do it. If not, I adise you to take it to a shop to have them reflowed. There are a line of them all in series with each other in that right front corner of the main board. That is the only way to fix this problem, have the solder reflowed.
