Go to start, run, msconfig and then select normal start up so eveyrthing runs when your computer turns on. With windows xp you should not at all have to install usb 2.0 drivers.

I recently restored to factory settings on my HP laptop.once restored I then input my Iomega drive into the USB port to access some of my saved files.

Just to be on the safe side, why not plug in your iomega drive into another known working computer and see what happens. If it works fine and is properly recognized then the anomaly lies within the software of your laptop.

U might want to contact HP - but be fore warned that they are terrible for support if your unit is "out of warranty." If that is the case I would simply google the anomaly and in all likelihood you will get links that will help you fix it yourself.

hi there, i to have an iomega external drive, have you tried to disconnect the cable, i.e.. the usb cord and restarting the computer and pluging in the hard drive itself back into the usb slot.....if yes i am thinking, another thing is, wha operating system are you using, if it is vista and you restarted the computer with it pluged in you must restart it without the iomega plugged into the computer, when an external drive is plugged in and the system resatrts vista recognizes it as an internal drive and tries to reboot from it....i am not sure why vista does this, it happens to me and microsoft says it's a protection thing, from hacker hardware components......so all usb things should be replugged into the computer after vista has started with just the regular things...microphones and such are ok....just things with mass storage are what need to be unplugged and replugged into the computer after reboot....hope this helps....shia

I just bought an iOmega eGo 160GB external hard drive and have no idea how to use it once I've installed the program. Help!!

From what I'm finding; this drive is a USB 2.0 drive. First, you'll need to plug the drive into the computer via the supplied USB cable (if it came with one) and any AC power for the drive if it requires it.

Then, your PC should detect it and you then need to run the software for it to be configured properly.

To use the drive, simply (if in windows) double click my computer and the drive will probably come up with a name such as eGo or iOmega Hard Disk or possibly even External Hard Disk. From there, double click that drive and start copy files! :)

Just right click on the drive in my computer and the option to eject or remove may be in the options, but just remove it if not as long as you now there is no data transfering

I have plugged in my iomega portable hard drive and want to backup my computer. How do I do that?

If the drive connecting through a USB port you will see a new drive letter under my computer. You should use the backup utility of your computer to backup your PC onto the new drive or selectively copy documents from your computer's hard drive onto the portable hard drive.

CANNOT GET EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE TO WORK ON LABTOP IT WANT EVEN REGISTER ON MY COMPUTER THE NAME OF THE HARDDRIVE IS IOMEGA 320GB

Is this a USB hard drive?
If so do any USB devices work?
Check Disk Manager (STart Menu - My Computer - right-click - Manage - DIsk Manager) - Can you see hard disk?
If so right cick on hard disk and set a drive letter for it in Disk Manager.
