Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Bought house with craftsman garage opener. Owner only had one remote. Bought a new remote at Sears that matched color code. followed instructions to code remote...that worked but made the old remote non functional.Recoded old remote...it worked but new remote became nonfunctional! Also pad on door ceased to function at all. It will not take the 4 number code anymore. This has all occured in last week since we've moved here. The remote color code is a reddish color inside the opener motor. Both the old and new remote are identical in color.

Post the model number of the opener and the model numbers of the remotes. The opener model number is found on the end closest to the door and starts with 139.

Try programming the keypad like this:

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

After programming the keypad see if either remote will work with it. Post this information also.

I have a sears model # 139.655000. The remotes have 9 dip switches. I need the transmission frequency so I can match up the right replacement remote.

Your opener is very old and I'm positive you can no longer get the remotes. You might look into one of these.

Craftsman - Model #00953751000

It is a universal remote and receiver that operates on the new frequency and has the rolling code feature.

On the remotes put switch #1 in either position and match up switches 2 through 10 to the dipswitches on the motor unit. There is a good possibility your receiver has quit working.

Is there a univeral remote for craftsman garage door openers?

Depends on the age of the opener. The model number is on the end of the opener closest to the door. Using it go to Sears parts and you can find out if the remote is still available.

Garage door opener remotes

If you go into the actual unit (on the ceiling) you will see the "code" of the opener. You then program the inside of the remote(s) (take them apart) to match what the actual opener is. Or you can look at the one that works and make the other(s) match that. It is a series of little toggles.

I had the same problem with my Craftsman opener but different model. However to fix this I simply followed the instructions that came with the opener and reprogramed the remote to the opener. The instructions are in your owners manual and are pretty straight forward.. John
