Question about Kohler Plumbing

1 Answer

Kohler K12014-4 Rite-Temp shower temp is either cold or max hot. Have to play with the handle by turning it all the way in either direction to adjust temp. May get lucky and find an area where the water is warm. Can this be fiexed? What is wrong?

Hi,

The part you need is the 500520 pressure balancing unit shown here

The part can be replace from the front with out removing the valve body....

You will need to find a Kohler parts dealer in your are to get the part or order it from someone on the internet...installing it should not be that hard....you can DIY....
this will fix your problem...

No hot water in shower

They have a anti-scald device on valve.remove handle there is a little white ring with teeth on it and a square stop that stops handle so that you don't get to much hot water, just pull out a little and rotate ring counter clockwise(I think it's been a while since I adjusted one). You may have to play with it a few times but it allows handle to travel further to hot side, allowing more hot water.

Kohler rite temp with diverter. When the tub is turned on water leaks out the shower head. Changed the diverter didn't fix problem.

You could have a restriction in the tub spout or just too much pressure. Diverter only restricts flow to tub spout so any restrictions to the tub spout will cause water to go up to shower head.

Disassembled handle and initial pieces under handle to find leak source. Single handle shower assembly. reassembled. Cold water only, no hot water. What did I not assemble correctly?

Take handle back off and see if it has a dial that can be removed and repostioned. take off and move it about 1/4 turn counter clockwise and reinstalled and try to see if mixture is correct.

Very little cold water from shower valve

If this is a new installation and has always beenj this way, then I would suspect that there may be an obstruction in the cold water line leading to the valve. Or something stuck in the valve at the point where the cold water is connected. If someone has worked on thius valve recently , then I would suspect that they got the valve cartridge in backwards, If the catridge is not placed in the valve correctly the opperation is messed up.

I cant adjust water temp 0n a single handle kohler shower valve

4yrs isn't very long, but I do believe the mixer needs a new cartridge in it. unless you have a loose knob/handle.But I don't thnk so. The temps should change almost immediatley. Have someone change the cartridge. It may need a special tool. If you think you can, do it yourself, the tool comes with full instructions. Make sure it does, consult with the pkumbing person .

No hot water pressure on kohler bath / shower faucet

Try draining the system and apply air pressure (min 30psi) to each faucet. Open other hot water faucets to allow pressure to vent. Next try draining and cleaning the hot water tank.
