It is because it is having it's path to ground interupted where it uses the flame as a path. It is fairly easy to fix just use a brass brush to clean the ignitor and the burner assembly (where the spark is going to) do it to all the burner you use monthly, for preventive maintenance.

While does my Elve stove top keep clicking ? I've cleaned the igniters. Turned off the power but they keep clicking

If you have cleaned the igniters on your Elve stove top and turned off the power, but they still keep clicking, there may be a few potential causes:
  1. Wetness or moisture: If any of the ignition switches, spark module, or wiring harness has gotten wet or damp, it can cause the clicking sound to continue. Try drying off the stove top and allowing it to sit for a few hours before trying again.
  2. Loose wiring: Check the wiring connections on the spark module and ignition switches to ensure they are tight and secure. Loose wiring can cause a short circuit and result in the clicking sound.
  3. Dirty burners: Even if the igniters are clean, the burners themselves may be dirty or clogged, preventing gas from flowing properly. This can cause the igniters to continue clicking in an attempt to ignite the gas. Try cleaning the burners thoroughly and see if that resolves the issue.
  4. Defective parts: If none of the above solutions work, there may be a problem with the spark module, ignition switches, or wiring harness. In this case, it may be best to contact a professional technician to diagnose and fix the issue.

Gas was turned off and igniters keep clicking?

As I did not see what occurred, I suspect that the tea kettle boiled over and sent water into the burners. The igniters kept clicking and I eventually turned the gas back on. Will have to replace one igniter which apparently went out and have to light it manually at this point.

All 4 igniters keep clicking, when one is on

All of the igniters are connected to one source. A series of small switches mount on each stem of each burner. Any of them can fire up the spark box and it in turn it fires off all the ignitors. If a boil over spills liquid into one or more of them switches the resulting continuity causes the clicking. Removing one wire at a time from each switch till the clicking stops is the solution.

Stove top igniter won't stop clicking

I found this on Youtube... I thought it might have to do with a thermal sensor not working properly.
Anyheuw, watch this video and see if this doesn't help fix your issue. If not, please respond and I will look at the schematics for the board as you may have a relay or some capacitors going bad.

Igniters will not turn off

Your switch assembly on the valve shaft has come loose or has broken. Have a look.

Igniters keep clicking

You most likely have a defective spark module.

Igniter issue - some do not turn on other do not turn off

I would try cleaning the burners. You can purchase cleaning brushes made specifically for this purpose and they work like a charm.
