My comand system on my 2006 R320 is frozen on the radio function but will play CDs. The soft keys have no effect but the steering wheel buttons will change tracks or stations. I have read that pulling the fuse will sort it but don't have a fuse chart. Any suggestions please?

as the car never had the radio control wheel in the first place you would have to make sure that the radio has the relevent wiring to connent to one , i think you might find you'll have to install a wiring loom that connects the radio to the wheel buttons

Has the star button on the steering wheel been pressed as this mutes the radio. just press it again to un mute. If this is not the issue, then more info on the radio model type is required.

Grab steering wheel firmly and turn it just a bit (try it both ways) while turning key to left. It will release the key. Sometimes you have to play with it a bit ( turn to left or right on both key and steering wheel).

Sometimes the steering wheel lock effects the key. Have you tried moving the steering wheel while yoiu turn the key?

pull the steering wheel one way or the other, while turning the key ,if key and switch is hard , spray wd-40 in switch and try that,if the steering wheel is turned with pressure on it, just pull the wheel while turning the key, hope this helps you, thanks robert b.

There is a company called PAC that specializes in modules like you describe - keeping the steering wheel controls functional with an aftermarket radio.

Click HERE to visit their site. You have to choose a compatible manufacturer. Basically - it is turning the steering wheel controls into a "remote" hidden in the dash.

For best results and compatibility, look for a shop in your area that carries PAC - it is a common manufacturer in the BIZ, and have them install it.

The simple answer to your question is YES as long as you use the module compatible for the brand of radio you are installing.

Now, since you know "how to release it"; here is a tip: Turn the key off, and pull it out. Turn the wheel to the left, and wait for it to lock. Observe where it locks. Unlock it, and repeat the procedure, turn to the right. Observe again. Now you will know where the wheel locks, and if you avoid having the wheel close to those locations, the wheel will never lock on you again!

Not sure about the European version, but the American factory version will not play video DVD's while the vehicle is in motion, (Drivers area) due to laws against this. Also...just to cover the non-factory installs, most aftermarket indash DVD players have a safety switch which prevents the driver from playing DVD movies while driving the vehicle. The vehicle must be in park for the DVD player to play a movie.
