Can u see the wireless icon in the taskbar near the time?if not, try 2 right click my computer, then manage, device manager, and see under network adapter the wireless adapter, maybe it doesn't exist or is not recognized, or maybe it has a yellow mark with a question mark in it, if its the case, then you'll need to find and install the driver, all these assuming that your new aspire is wireless capable

If the other laptop can't see the network, then it sounds like you somehow turned off SSID broadcasting while you were in the router's settings. Log back into your router and look for the SSID broadcast enable setting. Make sure it is set to on, then save the changes and reset the router if you have to. The laptop should be able to see it now. (There is also a setting in the Windows wireless network properties that you can check to connect to a network even if it is not broadcasting, as long as you have connected to it previously.)

Hope that helps!

My Netgear router is properly attached. It's supposedly working ok but no wireless is detected. Network Magic doesn't even recognize that it's there.

You may have the network as hidden. Try typing in the wireless name you gave the router and the password to see if it connects. It is possible that you have the router as hidden. If that does not work for you, you can go back into the administrative options of the router and reconfigure to broadcast publicly without and security enabled and see if you can pick it up then.

Wireless not detected

Are you broadcasting your SSID 'Network ID" If not you won't see a wireless network if "SSID Broadcast" is turned off in the router.

Login to your router config page and enable 'Broadcast SSID"

Laptop not picking up router that is connected tomy pc

Your wireless settings may have the SSID Broadcast switched off. If this is the case, your laptop will not 'see' the wireless network. You will need to manually add the wireless connection or turn the SSID Broadcast back on.

How do i set a password?

Follow these rules for a secured WLAN
connect to your router as admin using Lan cable.
Set A router password. (if not already set)
Change your SSID from standard name
Consider do not broadcast SSID
In wireless setting select WPA-PSK security protocol
Create a Passphrase to be used as key (write it down)
save and use new setting in every connected device of this network.
I recommend first broadcast your network with WPA-PSK password.
Find your network with your clients (PC, Console, print server) use pw to connect in secured way.
Be sure to set client network properties to "connect to this network even if not broadcasting"
For increased security modify your network in Router to "No broadcast"

Wireless connection won't work at home

Check your router is accepting backward compatible connections of 802.11b, as it may be set at 802.11g only especially if it's a 108 or 125mbps router as your laptop will only be 54mpbs and not see the router at all. Sometimes you have to dissable then re enable the wireless network adapter or refresh it for it to do a new search of networks.
