The easiest test to see if you have a bad key switch is to bypass the switch. If the scooter works when you bypass (short across) the switch then you have a bad key switch. The hard part of accomplishing this is to take apart the console and housing of the key switch. Without knowing your model the basic answer is to look at the console housing and look for the screws holding the 2 halves of it together. Remove these screws noting where they go so you can reassemble the console. Once you have the switch exposed on the backside of it you can locate the 2 wires going into the switch. Find the part of these 2 wires which is bare (no insulation) either at the nearest connector or at the switch. Using a paper clip short across these 2 wires, i.e. use the paper clip to connect these 2 points together. If your scooter now works you have a bad key switch.

A key broke off in the ignition of our handicap motorized scooter

This is a common issue with the travel scooters. It is usually an easy fix without having to replace the key-switch.
You need the following tools:
Good eyesight and / or good glasses to see down inside the key switch. A strong, thin needle. A jewelers flat screwdriver or eyeglass screwdriver.
The broken key inside the switch will have a flat back and a toothed topped. The toothed side moves a series of spring loaded pins inside the lock.
With the switch turned to the off position...
Place the jewelers screwdriver down inside the switch where the key's teeth are, pushing back the spring pins, and getting leverage under one of the teeth to lift the key out.
The needle is used to release friction and back pressure off the key back against the switch housing.
Work it carefully and be patient.
Once the key piece is out try ebay for a replacement if needed.

Gogo elitescooter lights indicate battery fully charged but scooter will not go

Make sure the free-wheel lever is engaged and the charger is unplugged from the scooter before you try to turn the scooter on. If the battery gauge goes up when you turn the scooter on and there are no beeping sounds you should be good to go.If the battery gauge drops to the red when you try to accelerate slowly, your batteries are shot. (Typical replacement in 24-48 months). If there is any beeping when the key is first turned on then there is a problem and the number of beeps indicates the problem found by the computer during the POST. The keyhole to my electric mobility scooter wont work so i pulled it apart and i need to know how to re-wire it without a key, thankyou.

Hi. Most scooters only have two wires to the key lock. All the key does is supply power to the controller, 1 to 2 amps at most. It does not supply the full current to the motors, so only a light duty switch is needed. An automotive toggle switch would do the job. Remember that you will have no security, unless you have a second switch hidden somewhere else on your machine.Good luck. Neil.

Scooter stalls

Hi, the wiring must loose around the key switch, it might be a case of taking the tiller off and resoldering the wires onto the key switch. It not a major repair , just a case of getting the tiller panel apart and locating the wires to the switch.
