Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Installing Windows XP Home Edition

When I turn on my computer it tells me that my Windows XP could be a counterfiet version. I went to Best Buy and bought Windows XP Home Edition and cannot install it on my computer. It says SETUP CANNOT UPGRADE YOUR CURRENT INSTALLATION TO WINDOWS XP, YOUR CURRENT INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS IS NOT A SUPPORTED UPGRADE PATH. SETUP CANNOT CONTINUE. My ex son-in-law put this on my computer so I have no doubt it is counterfiet. How can I get my copy of Windows XP Home Edition that I just purchased at Best Buy to install?

Been to that link it was no help. I clicked on the resolve now that keeps coming up on my computer and tried to order the Kit they had listed but got an error on that. As long as my computer is working I am not going to worry about whether it is counterfiet or not.

Not trying to be mean, but you need to find someone that knows how to install an operating system. The system should not say upgrade
path unless you told it to upgrade, and a upgrade is to vista,
there is no such thing as a upgrade from xp to xp home. The hard drive needs to be wiped, and not using windows format,a wiping tool should be used, then a fresh install should be done and not an upgrade. Then when xp ask to install the os on the hard drive, the
drive needs to be deleted, then install on (new raw) ( C), then
format and install. Once the OS is installed, the drivers for the motherboard must be installed, the chipset driver first, graphic driver, sound driver, lan, and what ever else for hardware that is on the motherboard.

It seems the only way out is to format the HDD and do a clean installation, connect to the net and have your OS activated by microsoft if you are sure the pack you bought is authentic....sodeep

I am having problem vith Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libary error occuring after installing comodo firewall 5.5 and running ad aware on my windows XP home edition computer. Any suggestions how to fix...

There should be a specific version of the runtime when it gives the error, search for what is called the re-distributable for that version for example visual c++ 6 or 2005, etc. run that installation package from microsoft, and it should resolve these errors.

Hi, I need driver for windows 7 I try install for xp and run like in xp but it is not working if you have any tip I will be thankfull

Hi marec2009
Unfortunately , you don't tell us what device is concerned with this compatibility problem .
If nothing works , uncluding troubleshooting in compatibility XP , the only way to get out of the issue is a workaround : installing a virtual version of XP on your machine but you can do it only under restricted conditions :
You are running Windows 7 Ultimate , or Professional or Entreprise :
you can download and install a free virtual version of Win XP from : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
Other versions :
.If you have the W XP install disc , you can install a virtual version of W XP on your machine from http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
If you still have the install disc , you can also partition your primary and install W XP on the new partition from http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html.Back up your data first.

Best regards .

How to solve "you may be a victim of software counterfieting"?

This is something you will need to hash out with Microsoft. If you can prove to them that you have a legitimate copy of XP, they will issue you another product key for you to use and help you activate it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase another key.

How to solve "you may be a victim of software counterfieting"

The Solution is simple, Just purchase the licensed version of windows, otherwise you will be committing the crime of SW piracy.

Temporarily you can get rid of the message, just uninstalling the Genuine verification patch from control panel.

OS Matter

Nope.

Without the disk you cannot upgrade to Windows XP Pro, because both Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional are two different edition / version.

So if you want to upgrade your current operating system from Windows XP Home then you have to spend money to buy Windows XP Pro

But if you want to upgrade the Service Pack then you can very well do it.

Click the link below to download Windows XP SP3 for your edition and install it. Before installing it make sure you have turned off your security programs or better install it from the SafeMode

Hi

U can install the windows in laptop also.. But with one condition that u do not connect the laptop to the internet.. If u want to connect means u have to turnoff the automatic updates in ur computer.. My best suggestion is u buy a laptop with preloaded OS.. Because Windows XP home edition will not support some options.. Better u buy a preloaded laptop..
