I have the exact same problem, and pulled the damper thermostat assembly out (The whole section at the rear of the refrigerator cavity), it is held in by 3 screws, one of which is behind the light diffuser, and the other two are behind the two small white plugs either side. It seems the flap that is supposed to move when adjusting the cavity temperature does not move when the dial is turned, so I guess this is the problem. I'm currently loking for a replacement but have found it may cost about AUS$150 !!

Your idea/plan sounds pretty good. There is a drip pan under the fridge right? it might be a good idea to run it into that. Good luck!

Check the pipe that drains the water from the avaperator (the thing that gets cold inside on the fridge)
periodically your fridge will defrost and the water should drip through a tube and collect at the rear of the fridge
If the pipe is blocked the water collects inside at the bottom ( under the crisper)

WHY IS THERE WATER LEAKING INSIDE THE REFRIGERATOR

generally water leaks on top mount freezer types when the defrost tube is plugged. The automatic defrost system works to keep humidity from blocking air flow across the evaporator(behind the back freezer panel) If it can not drain you will see it as water dripping from the top of the fridge section and water under the crispers.......Clean the drain tube under the evaporator of ice(poke a hole in evaporator and you are buying a fridge)........hope this helps

water is coming from the defrost cycle and is not making it to the drain pan on the bottom. try cleaning the coils and if you can locate the drain that goes to the pan and blow in it this will clear it out. thank you.

Hello,

On a top-freezer when the drain stops up water will back up turning to ice and eventually filling the air ducks with ice blocking airflow to the fresh food section causing it not to cool. You will also see a water leak inside the fresh food section. To fix this, remove the evaporator cover, (back or bottom of freezer) and then remove all the ice. Once all the ice is removed, you need to unclog the drain. I do this by forcing hot water down the drain with a turkey baser but you can use any squirt bottle, I have even used the water hose. Once the drain is clear, mix water and baking soda and pour it down the drain to prevent this from happening again anytime soon.

Hope this helpout,

Hi GE top freezer fridge - 5 years old( no ice

Well for one thing that unit was manufactured 10 years ago. But it sounds like the defrost drain is clogged and the water is running down the inside of the unit. The evaporator (not condenser) is on the bottom of the freezer compartment. The bottom panel of the freezer comes out. They are a bit of a pain to do, but can be done.

Leaking water into bottom of fridge under crisper drawers

This is often caused by a drip pan from the defroster in the freezer that is "missing" the drip funnel in the refrigerator. This can be a bit dicey to fix because you have to take the ceiling off of the refrigerator section and then drip some water in the freezer section. If you're lucky, you'll find some crud in the drip funnel. If not, and you can see it happen, you'll find the water go somewhere else that is not intended, like following the back panel down instead of properly dripping. Make a little copper wire "water director" where the water will follow this copper wire. The whole secret to solving this problem is to see what the water is doing.

Whirlpook ET21NK--Water collecting in crispers

Self-defrosting refrigerators turn themselves off to defrost once in each 24-hour cycle. There is a 'drip pan' under the refrigerator that catches water from this automatic defrost cycle. The pan is not very deep, so if the unit is leaning very much, water will run over the top of the pan. For this and other reasons, you should try to keep the unit as level as possible.

There is water dripping filling up the bottom under the salad container. The model is a LRTN22311TT.

Remove contents of fridge and check the drain line running down the top back of the back of fridge and follow to lower section of fridge (usually a back ledge or under the crisper sections) and locate a small round drain hole. Also, check to see that the drain collector (funnel looking thing at top back of fridge section) is located under the freezer defrost drain opening, to allow water to flow through the fridge into the drain pan under the fridge.

If something has obstructed the drain funnel, path, tube, or lower drain hole, remove the blockage to allow water to drain into underneath of fridge into drain pan for proper evaporation of water produced from the usual daily defrost cycle of fridge/freezer.

If that is not the problem, it could be that you have a leaking water supply line for your ice maker and you'll need to see if the freezer is allowing excessive water to flow out of the ice maker into the fridge section.

Another simple check/solution is that the fridge is not properly leveled, meaning that the front of the fridge should be slightly higher than the rear to allow for proper drainage and self closing of the front doors. This will help keep the water flowing in the built in channels and drains.

A perfectly level fridge isn't the right way to install most moveable refridgerators, while built in fridges (Sub Zero, etc.) are designed for plumb and level installations for proper functioning and use.
