Question about LG DBRH197H DVD Player/HDD Recorder

2 Answers

I have an LG 42LB1DR TV with the built-in DVR. I have had the power supply replaced once, and just had to replace the usual 5 faulty capacitors again -- this time I used ones with higher temperature & voltage ratings. Now the DVR is starting to act up, frequently requiring the set to be re-booted (full power cycle using the cord) in order to get the drive to work, and occasionally requiring a re-format. :-( The set is 4 years old, and this is the first I've seen of this problem. Is this likely to be a disk problem or a logic board issue? If hard-disk, what models can be used as replacements? I wanted to upgrade to a larger disk and tried a 500GB Seagate SV35.5 disk last time the back was off, but the set didn't recognize it and couldn't seem to format it. Is there any software or anything that needs to be copied to the new disk first? Also, does anyone know what the latest firmware version is for this model? How do I get it & install it? Thanks, --Steve

I've read other posts which suggest that this may be a disk issue (and perhaps the new disk I tried is not compatible. Does anyone have further suggestions?

    How about the firmware updates?

    Thanks, --Steve

Have you had a firmware upgrade done? Good fuse and clean connections?
If you can find another LG 42 series, then you can swap parts if needed.

I don't think it's the hard disk causing the problem. It might be the board.

Tv turns itself off and on

Good day!!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

LG 42 LCD no sound or picture

This is probably bad capacitors on the power supply board. My LG 42LB1DR has a known problem with this and I replaced the four bac capacitors myself and saved 5-6 hundered dollars that I was also told that it would cost to fix. I fixed for under 10 dollars and about 20 minutes. LG knows about it but they dont really want to admit it. My TV was only 26 months old when this happened. The four capacitors are made by Samxon and are 2200uf @ 10v. They are junk so even if you have the entire board replaced for say $200 its just going to happen again. They need to be replaced with a different brand.
