I have zune 30bg. My problem is why I turn it on i get a battery sign with a excalmation mark in the middle. When I plug it into the usb port or ac adapter i get a battery sign with a electricial plug in the middle. After about a minute it will show the Zune logo then trun on for a minute or two. Then it will say battery low then cut off. I tried replaceing the battery. If it charges the battery it play one or two sings the its dead.

This is an indication that the actual main board of the Zune is failing / has failed. Hopefully you can still return that battery you purchased so you can use it towards the purchase of a new mp3 player. You can still sell this unit on ebay, just list it "AS IS" and state the problem it has. You will still get a good amount out of the player and can use that towards a new one.

Unfortunately though this one has definitely failed, I have seen it many many times.

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

Hi! Looks like that the unit itself is faulty. Is this newly purchased? If it is, I strongly suggest that you take it back and ask for replacement for this is surely covered with warranty. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

First, you must not use the front usb ports on your cpu. You must plug your zune device in the back usb port. You must then download the LATEST Zune software. Install it and restart your computer. If done correctly, your Zune device will begin to charge and start working correctly. Have fun with your device

Hi,

I am not sure if this is gonna work but, since you've tried all other steps why dont we give this a try too...LOL :-)

To troubleshoot this issue, try one or more of the following methods in the order in which they are listed:
  1. Let your Zune device charge for 30 minutes, then disconnect and reconnect the cable to turn on the player. It can take up to 3 hours to fully charge.
  2. Connect the Zune device to a different USB port on the computer. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Do not use a USB hub.
  3. Use another supported high power source, such as an Xbox 360 console, a Zune AC Adapter, a Zune Car Charger, or a Zune FM Transmitter/Charger.

Note These devices are sold separately.
  4. If you are connecting your Zune device to a mobile computer, make sure that the mobile computer is plugged in and is not running on battery power. Many mobile computers are configured to conserve power when they are running on battery power to extend battery life. This behavior may affect Zune device charging.
  5. If the Zune device is charging slowly, be aware that, for optimal charging, the Zune device requires at least 500 milliamps (mA) of power. Frequently, USB ports that are located on the front of a computer and on some USB hubs are low-power, 100-mA ports. Typically, the high-power, 500-mA USB ports are on the back of the computer. Additionally, when you suspend the computer or put the computer to sleep, high-power USB ports may be switched to low-power, 100 mA mode.
  6. If the device boots to the home screen but is still not charging correctly, continue with the "Home screen is displayed" steps in the following section.

If the device continues to display the full-screen charging icon, continue with "Full-screen charging icon is displayed."
  7. If the battery in the device still does not charge correctly, visit the following Web site to sign in and register your device: http://service.zune.net (http://service.zune.net)

At this Web site, you can submit a request for service if your device qualifies for service.

Zune wont load

This is how this problem should be resolved:

  1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
  2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
  3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).
  4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
I cannot believe the savvy programmers for Zune did not identify this problem in advance

Zune 80 gig will not start

My 80 Zune has a frozen screen as well... This is ludicrous! Well this is how this problem should be resolved:

I cannot believe the savvy programmers for Zune did not identify this problem in advance... Well I guess we are all human lol... Can't wait to begin listening to my music again!

Have a Happy New Year!

My Zune 30 is frozen. What should I do?
Follow these steps:
Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!

First time chargin Zune 30GB Brown

I had the same problem (frozen after first time trying to charge.) I found the solution on another site. I just unplugged the device and let the battery drain completely, then plugged it back in (rear usb port) and voila, it works, that simple.
