It could be that the contact on the board under the keypad are dirty. I have that problem many remote control units, I use a pencil eraser to clean the board.

Hope this helps.

How do I save a new waypoint on my garmin 76cx?

Hi!

From your User's Manual Page 7:

You can create waypoints using three methods. Press the Enter/Mark key while at a location, create a waypoint on the Map page or you can manually enter lat/lon coordinates.

TO MARK YOUR CURRENT LOCATION
Press and hold the ENTER/MARK key until the Mark Waypoint page appears. A default three-digit name and symbol will be assigned to the new waypoint. To accept the waypoint with the default information, simply select OK.
To change any information, select the appropriate field and press ENTER to open the on-screen keypad. After entering and confirming the information you wish to use for the waypoint, select OK.

CREATING WAYPOINTS USING THE MAP
On the MAP page, use the ROCKER to move the pointer to the map item you wish to mark.
Press and QUICKLY release ENTER/MARK to capture the pointer location and open the information page for the map item.
Select SAVE. If there is no information for this point, a prompt will appear saying "No map information at this point. Do you want to create a user waypoint here?". Select YES.

If you require a User's Manual, you can view/download it from:

Hope this is helpful to you.
Good Luck!

I have a Garmin GPS 72 MARINE NAVIGATOR I HAVE A CIG LEAD EXTENSION TO ENABLE UNIT TO BE PLUGGED INTO 12V POWER I HAD THE UNIT ON BATTERY POWER THEN PLUGGED IT INTO CIG SOCKET THE SCREEN WENT ALL GREY...

If you can try first changing the battery of the unit to check if everything will be working fine, because there's a possibility that the battery went bad or worse the unit has some problem with it , if after changing the battery still have the same problem better have it replace and take the new unit Off Shore for your own good.

Hope that helps..........

My Garnin 660 can't receive any satellites with its own antenna, even if I am out in an open area As soon as connect Garmins (GA25) extra antenna it works fine. Can anythig be done?

Hi
it could be the internal antenna is broken.
Have you tried installing all the firmware updates on the device from the gamin website.
They have done quite a few and it is possible one could improve sensitivity.

Standard Horizon CP-150 won't find satellites

Robert

It could be the RAM inside the plotter needs to be reset, Try the following procedure:

RAM Clear

Please note this procedure will erase any saved user points such as marks and routes and will put all of the internal settings back to factory default. In addition the unit will have to reacquire satellite signals, which may take a minute or two. If you have a large number of routes and/or marks you may wish to save them to a User C-Card prior to performing the RAM clear. The User C-Card is a blank memory card that is available through your local dealer or can be purchased from C-Map directly by contacting them at (800) 424-2627.

1) With power to the GPS turned off press and
hold the ENTER key.
2) Now press and hold the PWR key.
3) Keep both keys pressed until the GPS screen lights up and you see the SYSTEM TEST page displayed, then you can release both keys.

Note: If the GPS is not able to be turned off using the PWR key you can turn power off at the breaker or disconnect the power cable, press and hold the ENTER key then turn the breaker on or plug the power cable back in.

4) Make sure that the RAM menu function is selected, then press the ENTER key.
5) A sub-menu will appear that has two selections; RAM test and RAM clear, move the shuttle point knob down to select RAM clear.
6) Press the ENTER key, a prompt will appear asking if you are sure that you want to clear the RAM. Press the ENTER key to confirm and a prompt will now appear that informs you that the RAM has been cleared.
7) Press the CLEAR key and you will be back on
the SYSTEM TEST page.
8) Press and hold the PWR key until the unit turns off, then press and hold the PWR key until the unit turns back on again.

I have a JRC NWZ4550 GPS. I've only used it once, I entered 3 way points and the system worked fine. Satellites lock on, all ok. I did a soft start, cleared the system, then started entering my way points....

If you are running a 4310 aerial with this unit the aerial ran out of date sometime in August 2008. You will have to buy a jrc 124 aerial. I had the same problem. Check with the agent TMQ International. You will find that the unit won't keep the date you have entered in it to set it up, it goes back to the year 1989 on the satellite page.

The unit receives signals from 3 (or more) satellites, and uses very sensitive timing to determine your distance from each of them. The unit does not transmit to the satellites, but only receives what they transmit... so it is a "receiver, only".

See here for the details of how a GPS works:

Hope that helps you...

The GPS cannot get satellite signal. It only displayed "acquiring satellite" considering that we are in open fields with clear sky.

Shut off the Receiver...

Press and hold Page + Menu + Power...

Then select "Yes" to erase all user data...

Leave it on with a clear view of the sky without moving for about 30 minutes to acquire the satellites.

Acquiring satellittes function is not working

This will sound absurd, but I have had 100% success with the following "fix" for 3 months now: drop the unit on a table from a height of 10 to 12 inches and then power up. It acquires every time! I have reloaded firmware, reset, everything and this problem persists. I do not get satellites about 9 out of 10 times I power up. Then I drop it and try again and I always get them. I think it's a cracked circuit board? I waited 3 months before posting this to rule out coincidence. If this method is a coincidence, then it is an amazing one that repeats over and over again!

Gpsmap 60c can not acquire satellites even when left outside for 15 minutes in a place where it usually has no problem. Problem happened overnight.

Are there any there any satellites listed on the satellite overview page?

What is the GPS SW Version listed by the unit?

0.00?

You have to be outside with a clear view of the sky for it to acquire satellites. No trees, no buildings, no hills, etc...
