Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS120 32" TV

1 Answer

The TV is showing the same image twice, next to itself. Basically a duplicate image right next to it. Two on the same screen. There is a 4 inch black bar going down the screen and everything is in black and white.

Thank you for the advice! When we moved into the apartment, there was a satellite dish on the balcony that is 20 ft away from our tv. I am not sure if it is on, if it is being used, or whose it is. Could it be the signal interfering with our tv?

  • laura_uclade Oct 26, 2010

Okay. I am not home to check out the TV, but I am pretty sure there is no antenna sticking up on it. Do we have to buy an antenna to extend it and then increase the height? Sorry I do not know much about TVs. I definitely am not going to be able to remove someone else's high rise transmitter.

Either your TV is not tuned properly, or the signals it gets is weak. We will call the type of fault as "Ghosts". There are mainly to reasons for this fault. One is the above said; improper tuning. Other one is, your TV gets a reflected signal into it from somewhere near. It is mainly due to reflections of the signal from a high rise building near to you or some otherways. If it so, you have to reorient the antena, and should try to replace its position, to an other position.
You should do this only after retune your TV once again. Just go through the manual of your TV, and put it into "autotune" mode, and wait for sometime, till the tuning process completes. Then check it again, whether there is "Ghost" still is or not. If it is there, replace and reorient [Turn it towards the TV transmitter. If it is a Yagi type, its short cross bar must point towards the transmitter].
For more clarification, you just give your TV, signal from your DVD player or any other source and be sure that there is no "Ghost" this time. If it prevails this time also, your TVs video IF stage has some trouble, and it needs more testing equipments, that you can't do it by yourself at your home.
There is no other checks to be done. Ok.

Thanks for the advice! When we moved into the apartment, there was a satellite dish on our balcony, about 20 feet away from our TV. It is still there, but I am not sure if it is on, if it works, or if someone is using it. Could it be what is interfering with our signal? The TV worked with the satellite dish there for a few months and then just got messed up the last week. Thanks

That is not the problem. A satellite dish won't cause any signal reflection. It must be from some high rise building or so there, from which the reflected signal from the transmitter come towards your antena. The exact cause for a double image is that, the direct signal from the transmitter, and a reflection of it from somwhere near or far to it. The first image you see is from the transmitter and its shade you see is its above said reflection. As TVs internal circuits will process both and will reproduce it to you. You just examine whether any of the said things are there to cause signal reflection. If it cannot be removed, there is no way other than increase the height of your antena. Your problem is surely due to this. There is no doubt about it.

This problems are a very tipical of the coded pixels on the LCD screen panel passes through the board that call the T-CON decoder board to causing this problems.Vertical colors lines display on the LCD screen panel happen by itself.Yes.The T-CON decodering board it is dying and shorting out. This T-CON decodering board sit in the middle at the botton of the LCD screen panel.Replacing this T-CON decodering board will solved this problems,if does not the LCD screen panel itself it is shorting out, than the tv it is not worth fixing, because changing the whole LCD screen panel itself it is not practical and the cost will be the same as a new tv itself.Tries websites like, to buy a refurbish T-CON decodering board for the replacement.

If you have a soldering iron and a capacitor tester you can check each cap out one by one, making sure that when you put back in a good one you observe the original polarity. If a cap has blown or is leaking it is obviously bad.

Boards can be expensive and perhaps not cost effective for a repair when you can get a new set for about the same money with a warranty to boot!

Digital Picture Frame Shows Black Bars

The nature of 16:9 basically means that you will be losing photo information in normally framed 4x5/5x7 photos. There is no way to fix this because the frame size of 16:9 is wider than 4x5/5x7. The options the frame offers are the only options to make your photos fit. Either crop, or distort.

The best solution is to keep this in mind when taking photos from now on and assume you will be cropping the top and bottom of the image.

As for the photos you have already taken, the only viable tactic to take is to reframe them for 16:9 yourself. You can download a free photo editing application like "GIMP" to do this. Create a new project that is 800x450 pixels. This will give you a 16:9 canvas. Next drag your existing photos into this canvas and move it around and resize it until you find a suitable framing for your picture.

Unfortunately it seems that as 16:9 solidifies itself as the new screen standard people are finding that shooting photos framed for 4:3 or in portrait dimensions are not translating well to this new standard. You may even want to consider returning this frame and looking for a 4:3 aspect ratio frame if cropping/resizing is not acceptable for you. Good luck!
