Hi, this happened to my Samsung ST500, it took me months to find out what was wrong with it!, i found out the it gets stuck when the lens is different or has dirt in the lens.

  • I Got Mine working by cleaning the lens but if that dosnt work try this, mine started working when i dropped my camera quite high onto the ground which can make your lens pop back in if this dosnt work, try your warranty!:)

Hey, i recently dropped my samsung st500 from about 3ft, whilst trying to take a photo of myself, should have used a tripod rather than balance it on a towel rail :(, 2/3 of the rims were slightly bent and a small piece of plastic snapped from somewhere and the barrel was jammed. (stuck out), when switching the camera on, it made quite a high pitched electric motor sound for a second or 2, then made the same sound for another second or 2, then switches itself back off. I opened him up as non of the above methods worked for me. It became clear instantly that the little white cog attatched to the bar with a spring on wasn't seated against the teeth of the other cog, so a man-handled it back into place, and then spent along time trying to figure out how to put the 3 piece barrel back together the right way (as i had to take this apart too to unbend the rims so it wouldn't catch), i eventually got everything back together and hey presto! Works fine! Shame a cracked the screen when repairing it, but its ok, got a replacement screen for £20 from ebay, saved alot of money in the long run though. This job requires gentle hands, and patience, if you are failing, please enjoy a cup of tea and return to camera, you will find that whatever you're trying to do will now work. :)

hey, I had the same problem when I accidentally droped my camera, some parts in the mechanism are probably broken or jammed.

Most likely repairs required.

When i push the power button on my nikon coolpix L5 the lens comes out and the screen flashes on then off

sounds like grit in the lens mechanism..... but is it worth enough to get it serviced?

Samsung S85 camera wont turn on. When the power button is pressed the green light flashes and the camera beeps three times than turns off. how do i fix it?

I quote the solution posted for another expert about this same problem...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My daughter has a Samsung S850, and returned from a weekend trip last night. She pressed the "Power" button and the blue light next to the button came on, as did the screen. The camera then gave a "buzzy beep" three times and shut-down. She decided the batteries were low and replaced them with ordinary AAA alkaline batteries, nothing special, and got the same result.

This morning I checked the voltage on the new and old batteries with a volt-ohm meter and found the old ones were low but the new ones were good.

I read this site and saw a comment that the camera worked after the lens was worked a little bit.

Upon a close look at the lens, I could see tiny grains of sand around the outside of the glass, so I got a wooden toothpick and gently worked the sand out with plenty of tapping on a solid surface to drop them from the area. I also worked the tip of a clean toothpick under what appears to be a soft rubber sealing ring on the outer surface of the glass.

After all this, when the "Power" button was pushed, the lens moved out and the screen lighted, and all the camera now seems to be working.

I should add that shortly after my daughter bought the camera, she lost some kind of metal or plastic ring from around the lens, and that left the "works" around the lens open to view: I can see two tiny screws the lens that are probably ordinarily covered.

Is the lens supposed to be covered by a curtain when power is off? From what I see, the lens is always uncovered. Maybe that lost ring held something else!

Transferred the pictures from the memory card onto the computer and put card back in. Tried to turn it on, but now the lens is stuck, it didn't open fully, and I need help. It seems to have frozen while...

This would need to be repaired if the lens is stuck so is the shutter. I would take it in and have it looked at. there is no other resetting then what you already have done ot the unit.

My kodak easyshare V1253 Powers up, then shuts off

You have damaged your lens. If the camera can not move the lens it goes through a built in diagnostics test and shuts down. Beyond repair as cost to replace is beyond the value of your camera.

My samsung l830 camera lens is stuck open and when i press the power button it beeps 3 times and remains blue then does nothing

If the lens on the camera is stuck out, look to see if it's a little crooked. If it is, try to gently straighten it. If it still won't retract, try to gently push it in as you turn the power on.
If it won't turn on (the green light blinks and it beeps 3 times) push and hold the 'power' button and the 'play' button at the same time for a few seconds - it worked for my S730. Good luck!

Lens stuck, green Power light flashes, nothing happens.

get a butter knife or any thin object like that and use it to push out the lens and turning it on at the same time  you will hear a clicking noise which is normal  once completely out, use your hand with a gentle but firm presure move it form left to right
and then hopefully it should work after that

Samsung Digimax S700 is frozen with lens open

I had this same problem, and all i did was pop out the SD card, and tried turning it on without it in there.  It powered up just fine.  I then replaced the SD card and all was well.  Possibly a problem with teh SD card.
