Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

I have a whirlpool gold washer model GSQ9300EQ0 that the pump still works, but the drum and center stack doesn't move. It sounds like the motor is turning on. I wondering if I have just slipped a belt, or if there is something more serious I should look for when I open it up?

SOURCE: washer

pull washer away from wall and lay on it's back. panel will be accessable since belt is only accessible from the bottom because of the tensioner

SOURCE: Washer will not agitate but will spin

It sounds like the plastic inside the agitator cog are worn. The smell is the plastic cog turning but the agitator not turning.

Take off the top of the agitator. If any screw are available remove them. If not grab the agitator from the bottom and yank off. Unscrew the agitator drive cog and inspect underside of agitator. Go to an appliance repair shop and reorder a new one. Between $15-30.

SOURCE: Washer belt is loose, & seem to slip at start of spin cycle.

there are several drive belts for this model... check here to see if the one you are fitting is the correct one... also,is the tensioner siezed? causing the tension to be too slack therefore allowing the belt to shred at speed?

Whirlpool Thin Twin model LTE5243DQ2 The washer will pump the water out but it wont spin unless i open the machine and rearrange the load. Then it spins but sounds like it's working very hard to do so

I'm not familiar with your model but on the surface it sounds like the belt is loose. If the load is not really well-balanced, a loose belt can't move the drum and when the load is balanced the motor turns really fast because the belt is slipping. Tightening or replacing the belt is fairly simple with normal tools and there are plenty of pages/videos out there on how to do it. Hope this helps! Good luck!

The dryer is majing a horrible noise. what could this be? Calvin

If the sound seems to come from the front of the drum it's probably the felt guides. The bottom one will wear first and make a grinding, rattle like sound. You can access it by removing the front panel which includes the door. It fits around the drum at the front. Here's a diagram. Some models have a two piece and some a one piece guide. Part 4 on this diagram is one. It's called a seal here.

If the sound comes from the rear, there is a nylon bearing and metal socket at the rear center of the drum.

Squeeling sound on spin cycle

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 887-327. It seems that coins can fall into the water pump from the bottom of the drum. I had to pull the water pump off the direct drive and turn the blades until the dimes came out. After I reinstalled the pump everything was quite again.

Whirlpool noise

Ok can you take the front panel of the washer off easily?

If you can look for the motor pump assembly. Start the washer with no load, turn the water level down to the small and fill with water when it goes into agitation does it make the noise? if not turn timer to spin and see if motor makes the noise.

One other thought, maybe the smell is coming from the dryer?

Let me know. I wont be on line again until Friday Sorry
