Question about ASUS K8V-VM (K8V-VM GREEN) Motherboard

1 Answer

I have an ASUS K8V-VM motherboard. I recently upgraded the memory to 2GB of DDR400 (2 1GB sticks) It ran fine for the first 3 or 4 days then started having problems booting. After changing the memory back to the original, it still had the same problem. I ran diagnostics with the new memory and it checked out fine. When I ran the diagnostics on the hard drive it told me that it over temped and it failed the SMART pretest. I got a new hard drive, and ran the test again. It now shows fine. However, whenever it boots or does a reboot, it freezes like it was doing before. I tried F8 to get into the bios and it doesn't open the bios.

One bad lead will cause your computer to shut down or continue in a cycle
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to your hard drive
hope this helps

That motherboard with support 2 x 184 pin 1GB memory sticks. It supports PC3200, PC 2700 or PC 2100. You can mix and match but note that both memory sticks will operate at the slowest stick's speed.

What is better? to put four different rams or one single ram of 4gb in p4p800 vm asus motherboard

I would suggest going with a single piece or 2 identical pieces of RAM for expandability purposes. If you want to upgrade later, you will have the option to add more RAM. From a cost standpoint, you might be better off buying 2x 2GB sticks as a single 4GB stick of RAM might well exceed the cost of 2x 2GB sticks.

I m having asus k8v-vm bt no space for sound card

The Asus K8V-VM motherboard has an intergrated audio chip on the motherboard, Realtek ALC660. You need to enable it in the bios. If you do not have you're manual down load it from Asus; http://www.asus.com/Search.aspx?SearchKey=K8V-VM You'll also need Adobe reader installed to view the manual. Enter the bios menu. Open Advanced. See the top of page
2-21 in the manual. Set, High definition Audio to [Auto] Save and exit the bios. Also check out page 1-19. You can install the driver software from the Asus CD or download it from the Asus link provided above.
Realtek Audio Driver V5.10.0.5211 for Windows 2000/XP/XP 64bit. (WHQL)

I have asus K8V-vm and i installed vista home premium which is working very well but when i try to install any kind of games or any software it do not support it.What should i do!

switch to xp pro sp2..
i guess ur using ram over 1gb..(though it may support upto 2gb ddr1 400/pc3200 fsb probably)!!
replace it with a standby n check..it may b a faulty ram..
make sure ur system clock speed is matching..
if ur using more than 1 ram, both must b of the same frequency..(eg 400fsb+400fsb / pc3200+pc3200 [correct]; 400fsb+333fsb [wrong])..
check if ur hdd is working fine and without any humming or oscillating noise..
also go for a bios update frm: http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=K8V-VM%20Ultra ....
..if ur not professional, do contact ur system admin/vendor....
