Question about Lenovo IdeaPad Y430-3231U Notebook

2 Answers

Lenovo - Y430 - I turn on the computer, all the orange lights (of the icons on the top row) turn on, the fans turn on, and the two blue lights showing battery power and ON-state also turn on. There's nothing showing on the display, and after about 12 seconds the computer goes dead. Everytime I hit the power button, the same thing happens over and over.

Please follow the diagnosis outlined in this article to check whether the backlight lamp or the inverter board are the root cause of the problem or not:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6430776-troubleshooting_laptop_power_failures

If you connect the external monitor & nothing is displayed on it, then this means that both the backlight lamp & the inverter board are fine. The main indicators in these cases are the sound, and the hard drive LED on the laptop case. If the laptop sounds just like it always does for a minute or two after being turned on, it means it's going ahead and booting the operating system, but the video processor or part of the motherboard circuit for video output has failed. If the laptop just sits there and beeps when you turn it on, or if you hear the fan but not the hard drive chuckling with its active LED flashing away, it means the laptop isn't getting as far as trying to boot the operating system. While this could be due to any number of hardware problems, the most common and easiest to
troubleshoot or repair is RAM failure. If your laptop has two RAM modules installed, try booting with just one and then the other in the primary slot. If your laptop only has one RAM module, you might consider buying one online from a site with a good memory selector, like Crucial.com

Hey I see a pattern here with the Y430. I am having the same issue and the tech says Motherboard. I say that is BS for a laptop that is less than two years old

I just want to use my one key recovery for y430 lenovo

Hi r_lakshmiraj,
I see that you want to use your One Ky Recovery on your Y430 machine.
  • First have your Laptop turned OFF
  • Once turned OFF press and hold down the One Key Recovery Button beside the power button, it should have an arrow icon arching to the left and hold it down for 5 seconds the Laptop should turn on.
  • You will see on the screen Windows is Loading Files, then Lenovo One Key Rescue system with a wallpaper of leaves in the background.
  • Once you see the screen it will give you options like One key anti virus, One Key Recovery and so on.
  • Click on One Key Recovery, then the next page click on the first option that says restore to initial backup or Restore back to factory defaults.
  • This will then give you a screen informing you that if you have data on the Hard drive that this will result to data loss once started, click on yes or next if you are decided to proceed, then click on start to begin the One Key recovery process.
Once everything is done you will get a screen informing you that it is done click on DONE then Reboot this will restart your computer like when you had it the very first time.
I hope that this will be of help regarding your concern.
Have a nice day.

Running Vista on Lenovo Y430. Have played game Torchlight countless times. Recently, it had trouble closing & when it did, all the fonts on my computer--Outlook, Firefox, menus, the Desktop, and what...

Try launching the One Key Recovery program.
1. Back up all files that you wish to keep from the C: drive
2. Turn off the computer (no flashing lights).
3. Press the Lenovo Care Button (small button with upside down arrow or word NOVO written on it).
4. Select System Recovery (very much different from the above mentioned System Restore).
5. Select to restore to factory default settings / initial settings.

Check your power settings. Double click on the power management icon in the system tray. If you are using super power saver double click on the icon. You will see an advanced tab. Click on this and you will see that you can turn off wireless.

The Lenovo Y430 occasionally gets a blue screen. OS is Windows XP. The computer is fairly new. Could this be a software problem or a hardware issue? Would an upgrade to Vista solve the problem?

you are right but you can try this go to start - run type msconfig press enter.disable all start up items except synaptics and wireless if you do see any.reboot your computer.check if it happens.if it does then it`s hard ware problem.could be RAM,graphics card or any other accessory attached to mother board.take care.

New Lenovo Y430 keyboard and touchpad does not work

Finally, I decided and insisted on being given a replacement for another defective Y430 unit. I am just so glad that the problematic 2 units were discovered before the 7-days allowance for return/replacement of defective units. I now have this third unit of Lenovo to replace the first two defective ones. I do hope this works well and will not make me do a fourth trip to the seller for any returns/ replacements/complaints again. :)
