Leapster LMAX touch screen calibration not working on center dot.. games not being able to read

We have an older model leapster LMAX I think its older because its bigger than the newer one we just bought, the touch screen was not working right, I read online how to callibrate it , the center dot does not change at all , which was the issue that was the reason for needing the callibration. It doesnt read games in it as well. Put in a game and no changes

I can get to the calibration screen to come up but no target appears. The stylus is not working at all with the screen.

  • OsideMomof2 Aug 05, 2008

Same thing is happening to us. Our Leapster L-Max is approx 2 years old and we can no longer calibrate the stylus. It cannot detect the lower left or the center dots. Therefore, any games that require the stylus are not working as 1/2 the screen can't be detected.

We have the same problem here ours is only 9 months old and have had problems with the screen from the begining. Now our center dot doesn't work either so we can't calibrate it so my poor son gets frustrated trying to play anything on it. I'm going to try and exchange it at walmart this week. I called them and they said to bring it in they'd have to look at it but they should be able to exchange it. Keep your fingers crossed for us and if it works I'll let ya'll know.

I can't calibrate the leapster.I can't get pass enter a name

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you need to sync the device to the stylus just follow the steps below.

1. Turn your Leapster 2 off, and remove the game cartridge

2. Hold down the 'hint' button while the game is off. The 'hint' button is the middle small button in the row of three above the directional pad on the left, with a '?' on it.

3. With your finger still firmly on the 'hint' button, turn the Leapster 2 back on. Keep your finger on the 'hint' button.

4. The screen should be displaying the calibration screen. You can release the 'hint' button now.
5. Press the 'A' button on the right to enter the calibration screen.

6. A small '+' sign will appear on the screen. Touch it with the stylus. A new '+' sign will appear. Touch this with the stylus too, and repeat for as many '+' signs as your Leapster 2 throws at you.

7. The screen will return to the calibration screen. You can now turn the machine off. Leave the cartridge out of the console, and turn it back on.

8. Your stylus and touch screen should now be working, enabling you to sign in as usual.

9. If it is working correctly then you can turn it off, add a game cartridge and turn it back on.

The pen has stopped working when touching the screen

I have leapster l-max and am having trouble with the stylus working. when i try to calibrate, i can't click on center targets

Leapster L-Max recalibrates differently. I was trying to use the instructions and it kept asking for a blue button. For the Leapster L-Max push B, A, Hint, and Home when you turn it on. Do not have a cartridge in the player or it will think it is a regular Leapster. Once it says calibrate screen it will say to press A, then wait until a target appears in the upper left hand corner, touch it and you should hear a sound, then a new target appears in the lower left hand, repeat actions, then lower right hand screen, and finally the upper right hand screen. If it stops at any time and doesn't get more arrows, try it again or turn it off and see if the pen works. It may take several times to get it working again.

Leapster 2 wont work

You need to calibrate the touch screen - hold down the ? button and a menu will come up, go to 'touch/calibrate'-red dots will appear on the screen in the corners then in the middle and you have to touch the centre of them with the pen to line up the screen again - turn off and again and it should be fine - hope this helps xx

The touch screen does not work on leapster 2

Turn off the Leapster2 and remove cartridge (if there is one).
Push and hold down the hint button (the one with the question mark) while the game is off.
Turn the Leapster on while still holding down the hint button until you see the calibration screen.
Push the "A" button to enter the calibration.
There will be a little plus sign. Touch it with the stylus and continue to touch the plus signs with the stylus until you return to the calibration screen.
Turn the Leapster off and then back on again without a cartridge. Login as usual.
If this does not work, then call customer service, depending on how old it is. I've had ours for over a year, and this still works each time.

Leapster with broken pen

My daughter did the same thing to the tip of her Leapster 2 stylus. I called Leap Frog at 1-800-701-5327 and was able to order a replacement stylus directly from them on credit card for $5.00 shipped.

I also took her old stylus and sanded the broken tip down with 100 grit and then 220 grit sandpaper to get rid of the sharp, cracked point and it works just fine. I figure I'll keep the sanded one as a spare in case she does something silly with it again.
