maybe a silly question but you would be surprised how many people answer no. Do you have anti-virus and firewall? Is the computer brand new?

You could ad more RAM and also download a free program called ccleaner and run that to clean excess used data space and also your registry safely.

Will a latop work without main local disk

Yes, and can load from an external harddisk (if your BIOS supported to load from external harddisk).
there's nothing special if you run your computer without a harddisk.

Its causing my computer to run extremely slow. When I am trying to watch videos and so forth, it continuously pauses my videos. I did not have this problem until I installed Norton on my latop

This is normal for norton. Nortons is an extremely hungry (resource wise) antivirus solution for windows. Try disabling it when you want to watch videos or play games other than that you could try to go with one a little less hungry like CA or TREND.

Have a dell latop p2 400 with 12 gig hd . hd l think is bust have got a 8o gig to put in place of it .but laptop will not startup. **** with thanks

Your 80GB hard drive does not have an Operating System installed.

You'll either need to buy an Operating System Installer disk from a website such as this one (Operating System are located in the category Software>Operating Systems), or ask someone who has an Operating System Installer disk to install your Operating System of choice.

Just know that the hardware within your computer MUST be compatible with your Operating System of choice and that you MUST have the system resources to support your OS choice.

Slow computer -how to restore a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro v1000

If the units are running slow, you can do some maintenance on them to speed them up.

First, run defragmenter on both units.(in Safe mode)

Download ScrubXP which will automatically clear your temp, cookies and TIF files.

Download CCleaner and run it.

Run your Anti-virus program: download the free version of AVG. (Great virus protection.)

Other programs to use are SpyBlaster and Winpatrol, all of which are free.
This should help, if you feel that you need to format and restore the units, youcan do so. But try this first.

Please remember to rate all users who assist you for free :)
