When changing ink cartridge #5 printer does not recognize. Now all wont light up. We tried taking all cartridges out, turning off printer, restarting , even unplugging it. We bought another cartridge thinking it was faulty cartridge. What else can we do???

I have a similar problem. Out of the blue, my MP830 started telling me that I had more than one of the same cartridge installed - which isn't true. The machine will not allow me to acknowledge and move on with other functions like scanning, etc. The thing is in lock down - and I need to get it running again.

Same problem (won't recognize ink cartridge)

We have the same problem with a Canon MP830. We find that if we turn the power off and then on again for the printer, the problem usually goes away.

Same problem with cartridge 5 (cyan) gives error message U150

  • Anonymous Jun 14, 2008

I am also having the same problem with the Cyan cartridge.  I keep getting a U071 message: more than 1 ink tank of the same cartridge.  Happened all of a sudden.  It is driving me crazy!

Same problem with Canon MP830. Ink was low for cyan and the two blacks. When I replaced the ink tanks, the cyan tank light flickered slightly before I took out the old one. Put in a new one and got the message that the tank could not be recognized. Tried another tank with the same result. Both are brand new Canon-brand ink tanks, verified to be the correct ones for this printer. Tried turning printer off for a couple of minutes and back on. No help. Unplugged it from the power source and restarted. No help.

The Canon manual troubleshooting instruction is useless -- says to use a "compatible" ink tank.

I know this does not help solve the problem,
but it lets people know that this is a common problem.

The solution in my case, which I learned from calling Canon, is that I was trying to use PHOTO ink tanks, which are different from the MP830 ink tanks. The box designs are identical. The ones I tried that wouldn't work were CLI-8PC ink tanks. The right one is CLI-8C.
They are exactly the same size and the wrong ones fit into the slot, but apparently the chips are different.

Ink light on changed ink still wont print

it sounds like the printer has not accepted the changed cartridge.

Try turning the printer off at the mains for 30 seconds then back on again, it sometimes works, or if that fails take out the cartridge's turn off printer for 30 mins then back on re insert inks and see if that works.

If it fails then there could well be a chip set failure on the cartridge you have replaced or maybe another cartridge within the set.

It's well worth saving the cartridge too as compatibles sometimes fail to be read by your printer but rarely the actual cartridges fail, you can put that same cartridge back in later for it to be accepted by the printer.

Wont except aftermarket printer cartridge error code "not recognized"

May be the cartridge is not detected by Kodak printer. Kodak printer works with genuine Kodak cartridges and that too brand new not refilled cartridges. The brand new cartridges have a certain code that is recognised by the Printer.Kindly buy genuine cartridges as the printer may be damaged by Non comaptible cartridges.

I just replaced black ink cartridge and snapped all cartridges back in place and recharged the printer now it wont recognize the black ink cartridge even though it was just replaced

Try wiping the copper contacts on the new cartridge with a dustfree cloth dampened with some alcohol. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

Ink cartridge changed but computer will not recognize it has ink

Please try the following in an attempt to resolve this issue:

1. Make sure the unit is turned on, and not printing. The POWER light should be on, but not flashing.

2. Lower the OUTPUT tray, and lift the scanner portion to access the ink cartridges.

3. Press and release the INK button.

4. Open the CARTRIDGE COVER. Pinch the front and back tabs of the first cartridge, and remove it from the printer.

5. Place it back into the holder. Push it down gently into the holder, until the cartridge clicks into place.

6. Repeat steps 4-5 for each cartridge. Close the CARTRIDGE COVER once all of the necessary ink cartridges are re-seated.

7. Carefully lower the scanner, until it clicks into place

8. Press and release the INK button.

The ON light flashes and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the ON light stops flashing and stays on steady.

CAUTION: Never turn off the printer while the ON light is flashing, unless the printer hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

Canon mp 150 error 5

Our pixma MP150 printer has a flashing E and flashing 5, also flashing on alarm, black ink and color ink. We have replaced the ink cartridges but nothing happens. They were empty. The printer doesnt recognize that the cartridges are there. We have tried unplugging the cords and taking the cartridges out and putting them in again. Also, it wont scan a thing either. ITs likes its frozen in the error. What can we do to fix this?
