I also have the VSX D412 and DirectTV. My DirectTV remote controls the D412 fine, but I did have the same problem you're experiecing with a Sylvania flat screen that the remote wouldn't operate. I corrected my problem by turning the TV off, then back on using the TV's remote, then telling the DirectTV system that I didn't know the model number and let the system search for the code. Hope this helps.
Unit is pretty old I had one of these back in 98-99.
Time to upgrade a service tech is going to cost you $150 just to open it up and figure out whats bad.
Pioneer ok but check out Denon's line of receivers Onkyo is good too but they have a high rate of repairs
Pioneer doesn't make them like they used to that D1S was a tank, had tons of audio / video inputs was one of the first with video upconverting had lots of power and a great front display panel. BUT technology has come along way and pioneer hasn't kept up. They even stopped making high end TV's a few years ago even though they were regarded as the best sets out there.
check this out Denon AVR-4310CIgoogle it they sell for ALOT less than sticker I bought one for $1299 with a 5 year warranty
THE FIX - to audio problems that persist
with the VSX-29TX and others using the AWX7272 DSP board is to replace the ROM on the DSP. My unit
started failing on and off after 10 years of use! The intermittent DSP
board is an Extremely Common and irritating Problem for this model! The replacement IC,(2) resistors + shipping and handling totaled $49.65 and
my unit is finally fixed correctly! Don't believe other posts that you
can get away with re-soldering; it will continue to fail again and
again! Details of fix are:
Replacement for the old Pioneer ROM located at location IC 9374, should
be done with the part PD6381A from Pioneer Electronics. You will also
need to move (relocate) the 2 resistors (0 Ohm resistors) located at
R9372 and R9371 to locations R9374 and R9373.
This component update applies to DSP boards marked as AWX7433, AWX7272.
This fix is validated (from Pioneer) on the VSX-26TX,VSX-27TX,&
VSX-29TX it might also work in the VSX-908, VSX-908RDS and others as
long as the same DSP board was used.
Let me caution and stress that surface mount soldering skills ARE
REQUIRED to do this update! It also doesn't hurt to have excellent
vision and/or an eye loop or microscope to check your work. Original
ROM's were subject to timing changes internal to the part as a result of
HEAT. This model does get HOT! The program was also modified as a further safeguard to
www.pioneerusa.com then support. I could not find your "Exact" model, and it could depend on where it was purchased. Look at units closely labeled to yours and chances are it will be the same with a different #. Hope this helps
I have the same unit. It does come with a remote. The original remote is pretty much impossible to find. But also there are some companies that sell remotes for it. Google Pioneer VSX403 remote replacement. I have yet to get a remote :D Good Luck.
Our VSX-515-S quit suddenly while playing when it was turned up quite loud. The power would not come back on. I disconnected it, and opened it up. No fuses were blown, but there was no voltage in the power supply. When I pressed the on button, I could hear a very faint click, but no power. I even took some parts out and replaced them.
I went on line and bought a service manual download for $7.95.
Within 5 minutes, I found where the service manual said if there was a DC overload, the power would cut off. To reset, press the ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND key simultaneously and hold for 3 seconds.
I did this and the power came back on. It even remembered the last FM station it was tuned to. Problem s.olved
