Question about Toshiba Satellite A105-S2031 Notebook

Open Question

Laptop has 2 gigs of memory. On start up, laptop freezes at "In Touch With Tomorrow TOSHIBA" screen. Neither of the 2 choices offered (F2 of F12) work. Nor does any attempt to start in safe mode. Removed memory in various configurations resulting in no change to blank screen with hard drive clicking. Even tried installing original memory just in case one of the current module went bad. Same results depending on which bank I used. I would assume that even if the hard drive was bad, I should be able to reach the set up screen??? Any suggestions? Thank you, Ralph

SOURCE: Laptop Freezes During Startup, before I can press any buttons or anything.

It could be a corrupt bios, which can be deleted with the removal of the bios battery or by the 'JBAT1' terminal to pins 2-3 then back to 1-2. The bios is probably set to halt on all errors and thats why it only goes so far. If there is no action at all; then there is a power failure to the motherboard or the processor has failed. Depending on your notebook age is whether it's economical to repair.

SOURCE: I Have an hp ze4300 laptop. it will not boot up?

Seems the laptop doesn't start up properly, the bios maybe corrupt or you have a hardware fault.

the bios may need to be reprogrammed and parts need to be tested to see what the problem is.

Theres not much we can do about this, you will have to take the laptop to a professional or contact hp for assistance / repairs.

SOURCE: Toshiba L35-s2174 stops on boot at the BIOS screen ...

Your problem sounds hardware related which boils down to really only 3 things, CPU, Memory, or motherboard.

If you have more then one RAM chip installed, try removing both and booting the laptop with only 1 inserted individually, if it works fine with one chip but not the other then thats your problem. Its statistically inprobable that both chips would be bad so if it behaves the same way with both chips the problem is likely bad CPU, bad Mobo, or possibly a corrupted BIOS.

Check system then press f1 key

Try this:

Instructions
    • 1

Insert the Toshiba A60 recovery disc into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.

    • 2

Power off the Toshiba (with the recovery disc still loaded inside the optical drive).

    • 3 Hold down the "F12" key, at the same time hit the "Power" button to turn the system back on. You don't have to hold down the Power button, but keep holding the F12 key.
    • 4

Release the "F12" key when the" In Touch with Tomorrow TOSHIBA" screen is displayed. This will open up the BIOS.

    • 5

Change the boot order by using the arrow keys to select "CD/DVD ROM" icon in the menu. The Toshiba will now boot from the recovery disc and restore the system. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.

I restarted my Toshiba satellite a305 and now it won't boot up or go into safe mode. It comes to the start up screen that says press f2 for setup f12 for boot manager. It will let me go into setup and boot...

If it won't let you go to safe mode, then there's something that the BIOS(setup) or Boot Manager needs before starting the operating system(Windows Vista). You should have a Toshiba Recovery Disk which will fix this . The disk will not touch any of your current files and data,so don't worry about that.

My Toshiba A135-S2246 has a black screen. External monitor will not work, hard drive lights for a second then stops, can't get into BIOS or any other help (F2,F8,F12)screen.

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately.

Splash screen comes up with f2 to enter setup f12 for boot options but freezes will not proceed no farther

Hi,
First of all if it will let you press F2 and see if you can reset the BIOS to default configurations. Hit F10, save the changes and exit the BIOS.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot to the operating system boot screen.

If it's still freezing on post then remove the battery and the AC power supply. Turn the laptop over and locate the RAM (memory) cover and remove the holding screw.
Take out the system memory and clean the brass contacts, also clean the slots that the memory sits in.
Re-seat the memory making sure it clips into place nice and tight and replace the RAM cover.

Return power to the laptop and turn it on to see if that has helped.

Good luck.
