Question about Polaroid FCM-0700A 7 in. Portable Television
If the faint image is a normal tv image ie it moves changes like a normal display but is ghost like or faint then your problem will be either the back light (led or bulb or electroluminescent) or the back light inverter board. This is a very common problem with any LCD type display such as used on tv or laptops and smaller devices. The backlight works almost like a projector bulb and lights the actual display.
Both of these are be located to the sides of the display. The bulbs or leds are usually worth about $30 and the inverter board perhaps $40. If you don't do the repair yourself then you can add perhaps $75 or so in labour. So what you should do is talk to a few tv repair shops if there are any around you or even talk to a computer shop if you have to or the polaroid repair depot. What you want is a estimate. You may find that it will be cheaper to actually replace the unit than repair it.So you also need to check around to see what a replacement is worth.
This is a bit of a iffy call even on larger tv's if it is worth doing. On a small one if you have to pay for labour is usually isn't cost effective to fix. Ie it costs more than a new one. If you can get the repair parts cheap enough and do it yourself it can still be close on a small display unit. It's annoying as there isn;t really anything major wrong with the unit and I know of cases where one person took the actual display out of the case and put it into an old cabinet tv with a reading lamp behind it and it actually had a better brighter display. Another fellow just took the back of the case off so sun would shine through and he claimed it worked ok.
So as long as you keep an eye on the cost and let that be your guide you'll do ok on this.
