Question about Dell Dimension 4700 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My dell 4700 diagnostic lights A&B are yellow, C&D are green & the monitor is dark. I can not get anything to show up on the monitor. Everything has power & was working normally yesterday. I dusted everything off & reset the memory cards with no change. Any suggestions?

The LED indication is a Memory failure. Make sure when inserting RAM that the power is unplugged and you press and hold the power button till all power is discharged from the motherboard. WHen inserting RAM, make sure levers are int he full back position and you press down firmly with both thumbs till the module snaps in place and the levers snap up in the locked position on their own (DO not pull up the levers)
If there is no change trying RAM modules in slots individually, then either all RAM modules are damaged, or the slot is bad, in which case a motherboard is required

The service manual for the Dell XPS 8300 doesn't show ABCD LED diagnostic lights. On other Dell models Y-G-Y-G indicates a video problem.

Green power light comes on but disk drive lights keep blinking and my screen is black on my dell dimension 4700

Remove ALL media from the machine DVD, CD, USB, etc. Check/reseat all Monitor cables. Reboot. If that fails, unplug , plug back in in 30 seconds or so. reboot, if you get a Dell Logo, Open the boot Menu and select Boot from HDD first.

I have a Dell dimension 4700 desktop and I've had

You have a problem with a device on your system board. If you have the original discs that came with your PC, then the Drivers CD has a diagnostics tool when you boot with it installed. Run the diagnostics to see if you can determine the problem. Here is a link to the Dell site that may help you out:

Best of luck to you. But may be time for a new system.

It doesn't show red color. i tried to do factory reset. but still problem.

1.After turning on the projector, press "+" and "-" buttons on the control panel
simultaneously for 3 seconds and release the buttons when screen goes blank.

2 Press "+" and "-" buttons again to exit the diagnostic mode.

3 While in Self-diagnostic mode, the screen will run a seven-color-cycle test as
following:
Red--> Green--> Blue--> White--> Watchet Blue--> Dark Green--> Yellow.

Ensure that the colors of the test pattern are correct.

Contact Dell if the colors are not displayed correctly.

Processer fan comes on high speed at start up and monitor is dark

Hi there, you might be lucky
The dell dimension has a feature for diagnosing problems
on the back of the pc right beside the network port RJ11 are four lights if the pc is fine then they all go green, if there is a problem then they will show yellow or not light up at all please check these and get back to me.
The light on the front with the (battery icon) is actually the hard drive activity light, meaning that the hard drive is being constantly accessed may be important will know more from the lights.

Dimension 4700 wont light up the monitor.

Hi Cactus,

My name is ArmyMason, let me get this straight. You have a Dell Dimension 4700 and the Monitor isnt working with the PC? This could be one of two things. Either the monitor is bad, to test this I would connect it to some other computer to verify its not the monitor. It could be the video card. According to Dell it the light combo you gave me indicates their is an issue with the floppy or hard drive and you should check to see if all the cables are correctly seated on the motherboard and on the Drives.

I really think it could be an issue with the video card. To resolve this I would consider purchasing a new card or rip one out of an old know good computer to see if that is the issue.

Thanks,
ArmyMason
