Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I tried the menu to get captions. I got the captions line, couldn't fix the captins in the screen. I believe I fiddled too long and now every time I turn on the TV there is a big oblong black screen that comes on and hides half of the picture. I do't know how to remove it. If Ican get it removed I will find someone more skillfl than I to see how to get the captions. I have an old Zenith TV It was programmed for me using your instruction booklet. Any way to remove that black screen? Comes on regardless of what stations I use. Betty Hutchinson

The solution was excellent and I appreciate the communication. For TV experts I am sure that was not a great problem but for me, not very experienced in TV or computer it wsa a clear and easy to folow instruction. Thanks again.

The big oblong box on your screen is called a text box. When you were trying to get closed captioning you chose text 1 or text 2 instead. Please go back into the menu to the captions line. You will most likely see text 1 or text 2. Select off or caption 1 to get rid of the text box.

You should have on your remote a key with letters cc
Another possiblity is getting in Menu and look for Closed Capion options.
Some computer hav different options like C1, C2 etc...
Generally, the Close Caption you need is C1

One caption frozen on screen

I believe this is associated with closed caption settings. This can be found in your setting menu, most likely under video. In there turn off CC.

I have an old Sharp Model # 27A-S100 I have a Black Line running across the bottom of my screen from left to right 22 1/2" length and 3 1/4" in height

If this line does not go all the way across the screen then I will bet you this is an easy fix. Press the menu button on the remote control. The menu will hopefully show up over-top the black. Search your menu for the closed caption setting (usually under audio settings menu) and turn closed caption OFF. Hopefully this fixes your issue. Cheers.

Dont know how to get the words to stop comming up when they talk captins on

If you have a cable box or satellite tv receiver connected to this television, and you are using the cable company/satellite tv company remote control the captions are not coming from your television. They are not controlled by your television or your television's remote. There is usually a hidden menu where captions can be enabled and disabled. You reach it by turning off your cable box and then immediately pressing the menu button. If your cable box/satellite tv receiver does not work this way the company can troubleshoot/walk you through removing the captions. If they cannot request to speak to a supervisor.

If this does not apply to you because you don't have a cable box or satellite tv receiver then there is usually a closed caption button on your remote control even if it is under a hidden fla or there is a closed caption option in the television's setup menu that can also be accessed with the television's remote control.

Try first unplugging the power cord for fifteen or twenty minutes , see if this can reset and fix the problem.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

This is what just worked for me. If I can figure this out, anyone can :) We have comcast cable hddvr box, motorola 3416, and a new Samsung HD Plasma, but try this no matter what you have...
turn your cable box off, and THEN press menu on the box. A white screen popped up and this is where I had to scroll down to and disable the captions. I couldn't believe this worked since I thought the cables were enabled on my TV since my captions were covering my cable menus, but it was the cable. I hope this helps.
