Needle hits the plate

I have a Janome machine, brand new, and the needle won't go in the whole anymore. It keeps hitting the plate on the back of the whole. I know how to put the needle in and I have changed it a few times to see if it wasn't a faulty needle. But nothing changes. I happenned after I did a backward straight stich and it won't work anymore. Help!

Remove your needle plate, clean around it, turn the handwheel to see if the hook will catch your thread(Like you are trying to bring up the bobbin thread). If it catches okay, put the plate back on and as you tighten the screw push the plate towards the rear of the machine. Reassemble everything, rethread , insert a bobbin and try it by turning the handwheel again. If it still hits, you need a service. If it doesn't, have fun!!

The needle is hitting the plate all of a sudden?

If it hit all of a sudden it most likely was your needle got bent. Replace needle and don't pull the material. Let the foot do the work.

How do I adjust the bar that holds the needle? I ran over straight pins and now the needle keeps hitting the plate

If you are not using a brand new needle, install one now. If there are still issues, the machine has been knocked out of time (happens when hitting pins!).

Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

What size needle is used on janome model 672

Janome makes sewing machine needles. However, many machine brands recommend using their own brand needles (ie Singer recommends only their needles and I have encountered issues using Singer needles with non-Singer machines). Sometimes, machine-brand needles are higher priced. More expensive does not guarantee better quality. However, unbelievably inexpensive off-brand needles may not be a good thing.

PRODUCT REVIEW JANOME SEWING MACHINE NEEDLES

Janome needles will most likely work fine on your machine, however, most modern sewing machines accept the standard 705/130 needle. Beware, though, that some brands of 705/130 needles have slight variations that may cause problems. If in doubt, consult your Janome dealer or an experienced Janome user. It may come down to experimentation on your own. Don't be surprised that a brand recommended may work better than others. Because a sewist is a staunch advocate of a particular brand, does not mean it will work best for your machine. It's just the nature of the beast because every machine and every needle has slight variations. Purchasing a single package of brand needles and trying them first would be a good idea. If the needle doesn't seem to work, you can try another brand until you find one you like. When experimenting with a different needle, start out sewing slowly (or hand rotating the wheel) in case there is a problem with the needle, you may avoid broken needles.

I've found several brands that work fine on my machines (not Janome machines) and seem to work for most sewists, ie Schmetz, Organ, Klasse, even Kenmore. It's probably best to avoid lesser known brands or bargain bin needles. Fabric stores, like JoAnn's carry Schmetz and if you use coupons, you can frequently buy them at a great price, sometimes 50%.

How to Choose Sewing Needles Looking at Types Sizes Lifespan

Along with choosing the needle for your machine, you need to consider the thread and fabric you will be using. Choosing the correct needle is very important for your sewing success, ie use a ball point needle for knits, a leather needle for heavy fabrics/thread, a sharp/microtex for fine wovens, embroidery for applique & embroidery, top stitch for larger threads & heavier fabric, etc.

And, above all, install a brand new needle frequently, ie whenever beginning a new project. A bent/dull/damaged needle will cause all kinds of frustration, including failing to pick up the bobbin thread, skipped stitches, or even hitting/damaging the presser foot, needle plate, or hook. A flying piece of needle is not a pleasant experience--and dangerous (wear eye protection)!

My needle keeps hitting the metal plate, and its a brand new needle. It seems like the alignment of my brand new machine is off. Basically, the needle keeps hitting the metal plate where the bobbin is, and...

Check whether the needle is installed correctly - maybe it's turned around from machines you are used to. Also verify that the needle plate is installed correctly, not upside down (may be possible on some machines). If the needle and plate are installed correctly, then something is out of line, and you're owed a free adjustment or repair from the manufacturer.

Needle breaking

it's very possible that when the needle hit the hoop that it caused the needle bar to jump time
I would suggest that the machine be taken to a sewing machine shop to be checked to see for sure if it is the timing or something else since the needle is also hitting the throat plate

My Singer 6160's needle is hitting the bobbin plate.

first change the needle--flat side to the back of the machine, make sure the needle is inserted all the way up into the needle holder
make sure it's the correct needle for the machine
if the needle keeps hitting the bobbin plate then the machine may be out of time & would have to be take to a sewing machine shop for retiming.
