SOURCE: Self-cleaning oven doesn't work on Kenmore electric oven

I suspect the timer is involved in this process. It can be set to clean automatically. You need to set the complete time at least 2 hours after start.

Broiler element doesn't work

Reseating the Element The broiler is heated using an electric element which should be clipped in to the top of the broiler enclosure. If this has come loose then it might not be making contact with the necessary terminals. Try to reseat the terminal but before doing so you must ensure that the electricity is turned off.
Testing the Element The element is what heats up and cooks the food in the broiler. Over time the heat can damage the broiler element. These elements are supported by stand-offs and if the element burns out or becomes damaged then this can be a common reason why the broiler isn't working.
The easiest way to test whether this is working is to turn the broiler on and look at the element. If it is working correctly then the element should be glowing red.
Another slightly more complicated test for the broiler element is to remove the element from the oven and disconnect it. Then use a multimeter to check the continuity of the element. Set the multi-meter to measure resistance and then put it either side of the element. The normal measurement should be between 20 and 40 ohms. If the element is infinitely resistant then this means it's broken and will need to be replaced.
Testing Oven Controls Another reason why the broiler will fail to work is because of problems with the oven controls. A thermostat is used to set the temperature of the broiler, and the oven selector controls are used to control the setting of the broiler.
Turn the oven controls on to see whether the broiler is working properly. If not the controls can be removed and tested using a multimeter. Check the outputs to ensure that the controls are working correctly.
These can also be replaced if required by fitting a replacement part designed specifically for your oven.

Kenmore 790 oven won't heat after self clean

Did you fully disconnect the wires when you checked continuity? If not you are checking continuity in the whole circuit. For what its worth, the self clean feature superheats the oven and often burns out elements. We see it all the time. It is one feature to never use!

The broiler element is not part of the oven temperature, it is a broiler. The oven works on the bottom element alone. If it only gets to 300'F, wither the bottom element is faulty or the thermostat is failing. As I mentioned self clean is a great way to cause problems.

I recently put my oven through the self clean cycle then the next day neither the oven element or the broiler element will heat up. There is power to the control panel.

Probably the Thermal Overload Sensor burned out from the excessive heat during the cleaning cycle. It Is located on back side of oven.

Oven not heating

If the element only works partially or not getting red hot at the "Hi" setting, the problem might be with a burned out receptacle that the element plugs into. If this is the case, replace both the element and the receptacle.

You can usually tell when the element itself burns out. It might have small holes or bubbles on the coil. Replace the element, if found defective.

Jennaire broiler doesnt work on slidein range after using self clean oven. Its only 14 mo. old

if just your broil element does not work and the bake element does work after using a self clean cycle then your broil element must have went out , self clean is a torture proccess for any self clean oven and it runs both elements at 500 deg. F, it may be still under warranty , if not then replace the broil element for the fix.

Broiler quit

Have you checked the broil element resistance? Unplug the range and remove the back cover. Remove the wires from the broiler element and place a meter across the element posts. See if the element reads close to a short (It should read very low resistance if good). If the element reads infinite (open), you will have to replace the broil element. If the readings are normal, you may have a bad Electronic Range Control (ERC) board. The board controls the bake and broil features of the oven through two separate circuits. Usually a relay on the board goes bad. Since the ERC is considered "non-serviceable", replacement components can be hard to find. For this reason, the entire assembly is usually replaced. The ERC runs around $100 for your range, while the broil element can run anywhere from $35 to $60. Now...as far as your self-cleaning function is concerned - most electric ranges use BOTH elements to super heat the oven cavity to about 700 - 800 degrees F. With one of the elements not working, there's a good possibility the self-cleaning function will not work either Double check the items I mentioned and let me know if this helps you.
