Question about ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP, iP35, S 775, PCI-E , DDR2 1066/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX Motherboard

1 Answer

Power...yes...boot no I have just upgraded my how stack all parts new. P5K3 Mobo, BFG 9800 GX2 Graphics card, DDR3 2 Gig RAM and a E8400 Duo. Install everything and had issues with power, turns out i didnt have enough lead from my PSU, so just went and blown more money on it. The mobo has a green LED to indicate power, all the directions in the manual have been followed and nothing, reset BIOS, still nothing. Now my board seems to work, processor ? dunno how to check that, I cannot hear any beeps from the speaker as I dont have one LOL. The Graphic card is in the PCIe slot and no idicator light from the board saying its not installed correctly. GC shows all green lights, but no video output. no other GC to use to check it as i only have a AGP slot card from the old system. Mem is inserted into DIMM A1 and A2 (manual is not clear on this to my level of intelligence). HDD have been checked to ensure that the 2 IDE's are correctly jumpered and I have one that is a SATA and its plugged into SATA1. I have installed my OS onto one of the drives which I know is the 160 gig so I have disconnected everything and only attached that drive to boot from, I hear it working but not booting up the system. The video does nothing, i have tried both ports as one is indicated as bootable. I am at the stage where my open window is begging to have something throw out of it..please help! Many Thanks in Advance. Simon London UK

Hi Simon, I'm hoping you made a typo. You stated you are using DDR3 memory? The board can not run DDR3...
To check you're CPU go to the CPU section in you're bios & look for hardware monitor. Sit there a while & watch the motherboard temp & CPU temp. You really need an internal speaker. Suprised Asus did not supply one with the board!
You can get one here. http://store.cwc-group.com/casp.html
A must have tiny bugger. The memory slots you are using are correct, A1 & A2. (Memory speed is questioned, DDR2 - 800MHz, Max of 8GB). In you're manual go to section 4.4.1 Make sure you're bios is set to Auto. PCIE Frequency set to Auto, pg 4-47. 95% of the settings in the bios set to Auto.
Please clarify you're memory?

Luck!
Mike

Simon, you did mention within you're post, the board is Asus P5K3 Deluxe. Above you're post is listed Asus P5K Deluxe.

So my answer is for the wrong board. I did miss read the second line in you're post. (My bad, sorry).

Please go to Asus & update you're bios. You can download the latest bios file & flash utility from here. http://support.asus.com/download/downloa...

    This should help.

ive had a similar problem before. in the BIOS there somewhere, there is an option to make your computer use the ON BOARD VGA, or to use the PCXI. which ever one is selected is the one that the computer will use. if you can change this option in the BIOS, you might be able to use your video card.

Can I upgrade the video card on a Gateway E4300 to work with Shader 3 graphics (Eve Online)? Or do I have to buy a new computer?

You only really need to upgrade the video card and the PSU (most video cards need more power than what most companies like dell and gateway provide.). So no need to buy a new computer.

This motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16 slot for a graphics card.

Geforce 6 series (6800GT)

Geforce 7 series (GeForce 7950, GeForce 7900, GeForce 7800, GeForce 7600 ,
GeForce 7300, GeForce 7200 and GeForce 7100)

Geforce 8 series (GeForce 8800 Ultra, GeForce 8800 GTX, GeForce 8800 GTS, GeForce 8800 GTS 512, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT and GeForce 8500 GT)

Geforce 400 series (GeForce GTX 480, GeForce GTX 470, GeForce GTX 465, GeForce GTX 460, Geforce GTX 450)

I have a Gateway tower (gt5026e) with an Intel mobo (E210882). I recently upgraded the video and purchased a pcie nvidia card. I knew I would need a new power supply (300w wasn't acceptable for the card)...

you may have dislodged something as you carried out the upgrade - Check all the cables are seated correctly - also check the memory is correctly seated does the machine bleep at all this will give an indication of what the problem may be ------ the number and pattern of the bleeps
the next step would be to remove all unnecessary devices, like the CD , DVD , spare drives - getthe machine to a minimum state of just PSU, MOBO, CPU, Memory, harddrive, graphics and see if that boots
also as you have upgraded the video card can you put the old one back in....

Graphics upgrade

As long as you have a open vga, vga e, or pci slot in your computer you should be able to install a new video card. the Acer website says your motherboard supports up two gigs of ram, I am not sure how much ram you are running but if it is under 1 gig I would consider upgrading that also. as far as a graphics card goes get one that has at least 512 mb of its own ram so it dosent pull from your system ram as I am sure your current on-board card is doing. Another couple of hints are: if you are running Windows Vista you they call for 1 gig ram for optimal performance, also it is very important that you un-install any graphics drivers before you install new ones, and when you install the new card read the instructions completely before you do anything.
hope this helps
