A network switch like the dynex does not have an ip address. Typically, only managed switches would have an ip address.

Can a dynex DX-ESW5 act as a print server?

No. You need a router to set / obtain an IP or connect it directly to the computer RS232 serial port. No network required, but is old school and may be difficult. Specially with MAC. You are better off getting a new router.

Only can use one accesory plugged into router at a time

This is expected functionality for an Ethernet Switch.

This is not a router -- it is a switch.

A router is designed to share one IP address with many devices and provides its own DHCP server for your private IP LAN. When you try to use a switch in this situation, one of the devices will grab the one IP address that is allowed to be assigned by your modem and the rest will go without and not work on the network (as you have seen)

Take the switch back and exchange it for a router.

Make sure that the device is labelled as "router" or 'DSL/Cable router".

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year!

If it's still under warranty, get it replaced, otherwise chuck it and buy a new one.

What wires go into the back of the Dynex 5 Port 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch?

A switch is a device for networking computers printers or other devices with an ethernet port. Most common scenario would be to hook a cat5 cable from your broadband router's lan port to Port 1 and then connect your other ethernet devices to the remaining ports. In order for the devices to cmmunicate you'll want to make sure that they are on the same ip subnet. Usually, 192.168.1.x.
Your router may be 192.168.1.1, your PC 192.168.1.100 Printer 192.168.1.101. Each device needs a unique IP address.
Hope that helps.

Help

Sounds like a DNS issue which means Domain Name Service issue. I would set your DNS server IP addresses to be 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 on your Local Area Connection Internet Protocol settings and see if that doesn't fix the issue.

Cannot use more than 1 computer with my 5 port router

Start with buying a router. The Dx-ESW5 is a 5-port switch, not a router. http://dynexproducts.com/t-faqs_dx_esw5.aspx

You could make it work, but you'd have to assign IP addresses to each of the machines connected to the Internet. For security and a number of other reasons, it's quicker and easier to just grab a router on sale at your local office supply place for $30 bucks or so.

Xbox live

You need to enter the router configuration. How you do this varies by model, but usually involves typing your gateway address into a web browser. Then, you need to assign your xbox an internal IP address and activate port triggering or forwarding (depending on the sophistication of your device) to send information on the designated ports to the Xbox.RICHARDM69

Using laptop and pc on this router

You SHOULD NOT post your personal details here...

The dx esw5 is not a router, it is a switch so it cannot assign an IP to the second PC.

dx esw manual HERE

Which ever PC is turned on first will get an IP assigned by the modem and the other will not.

My guess is that the service provider for your internet only allows 1 IP to be assigned by the modem.

What model is the modem

I think you need a router to share the internet between 2 PC's
