If the display shows "Err", push and hold the Peak Level button. Does the display change to "E09"? If so, then you have just been "had" by the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. What does err mean on carbon monoixide dectectors

Is it about 7 years old? The chemistry of the sensor is only good for 7 years, so by regulation they are required to have a timer that makes them die at 7 years, after which they are no longer accurate and could mislead you into a fatal CO poisoning. I presume you've already tried replacing the battery.

My midland weather radio wr120 makes a loud beep about every 30 to 45 minutes. what is causing this?

I just caught mine in the act and the message was "BAD RECEPTION" - but it doesn't stay on the display very long, if you don't catch it right when it beeps, you'll miss it.

My unit keeps chirping every 30 seconds even after replacing the batteries. The unit is over 5 years old.

The manufacturer has written this in their manual for your unit...

"Err" displayed -battery icon may show any state of battery capacity. One quick beep every 30 seconds. Unit is Error condition

Replace batteries. If "Err" (or blank display) continues, unit has malfunctioned. Replace immediately.
