Question about Sony Handycam DCR-PC101E Mini DV Digital Camcorder
This is one of a few things either one the formatting on your tapes and camera are diffrent which causes the thick gray lines because they are not compatable or two the tapes are bad and the either if there disks are laser burned or if they are tapes they are smudged either way try this buy some new tapes and go into your formatting settings and see if they match that which the tapes run on

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.
