How to test, or make work the internal Web Cam?

I just installed Ubuntu - glad to be done with Vista but I dont knowhow to use LInux. I am trying to figure out if my onboard camera works. There is a post online by someone with my same computer, using HardyHeron (same as me) who says the camera works fine. But I dont know how what program to use to test it, or how to start it, or see if its set up in LInux. Can you point me in the right direction?

System and video bios shadowed

Get the restore disc from Restore.com it should clear up the problem..Better yet dump Vista (Windows) altogether and and install ubuntu for free eg. Zorin 9OS 32 bit system. It is kept current until 2019. wheras Vista and Windows XP are not kept current and are vulnerable to hackers. With older systeme there maybe intitial problems getting the wifi and wireless printer to work..(go to linux or Ubuntu forums for help. The Ubuntu system is fast compared with any thing Windows puts out..

I cant use web cam on my hp pavilion g6-1b60us notebook pc

I would need a more precise definition of "flattened." But if Ubuntu is on your laptop, you may be able to apply Ubuntu's system updates and that may take care of the problem.

Reformat laptop with Linux

First you need to choose a linux distro, I suggest ubuntu since it is the easiest by far.

Steps for installing ubuntu -
1. go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download and follow the directions to burn a live cd
2. restart your computer with the live cd in the cd drive
3. you can choose to try ubuntu, test it out for a bit, and then install it from inside ubuntu, or you can install it directly from the menu you get when your computer boots up. When trying ubuntu, you can also mess around with the built in partition editor ( there is an option to format the whole drive when installing so you don't have to worry about formatting before installing)
4. Just follow the instructions and install, and then enjoy :)

Ubuntu installation

Relax Sairam -- you don't have know all these answers.

First step, download Ubuntu and burn to a CD .

Second adjust your bios if necessary to change the boot preferences on your machine, so that it will try your CD/DVD device first before trying to boot from a hard disk.

Third, let the Ubuntu Live CD execute and bring up a desktop. On the desktop, there should be an icon to actually install Ubuntu. It will guide your through all the decisions that you need to make.

You may find it advantageous to have a "dual boot" configuration on your machine... i.e., having the choice of running some windows operating system, or ubuntu.

Ubuntu linux compatibility with vista

1.Repartition HD to fit Ubuntu
2. Install Ubuntu
3. Upon starting computer, select operating system (Vista or Ubuntu)
You could also use Wubi which is a program on the ubuntu 8.10 cd that allows you to install Ubuntu right from Vista and it will run just like it's an app per say. Just to warn you though, it will not run as fast and if you are installing this on a laptop it won't be able to hibernate. Also it doesn't require you to create a separate partition to install Ubuntu. This could potentially be a bad thing, depends on how you look at it.

Hope this helps!

Yeah I dont think they are allowed to make xp drivers even if they wanted to. Try getting all the information about your computer as you can, video card, audio card, nic, ect. Then download separate drivers for everything. If things dont work out just go back to vista or linux, (fedora, ubuntu, kubuntu, red hat, ect.) linux is better anyways and its just fun to use.
