I have been using this lens on my Canon Rebel EOS for years, but this morning it won't detach from the camera.

Hello,
While turning the lens look at the lens mount. Does the lens turn but the mount stay stationary? If so maybe there is a connection issue. With the release button pressed then rapidly turning the lens back and forth, maybe it will release. Maybe something simple, or the lens connector to the lens mount or lens mount itself is the issue.

Sigma AF28-300mm f3.5-6.3 DL Aspherical (IF) Hyperzoom lens (minolta mount)- what would be the best camera to match?

If it has the most recent Minolta mount then it should fit onto a Sony camera as well as the more recent Konica-Minolta cameras. The best camera among the lot would be the one that best suits you and your style of photography.

Check you manual, but it should be no problem- Sony bought Konica Minolta to have the Minolta lens mount (and engineers). Your old lens doesn't have all the internal electronics (and connections) of the new lenses, but every old minolta AF lens i've tried works fine with alpha

Acquired Promaster 60-300mm FD lens for Canon but am unable to remove the cover on the mount end of the lens? Do I need to align somehow to release/remove cover? Thank you for your assistance. SandyBucket

usually there is a little pin on the inside that the cover presses down, maybe the lens cover was put on wrong, so if you push it down it would be able to turn. or there is a little button next to it.

Minolta SLR Lens on Sony - Does it work.

As I understand it, Sony bought Minolta, lock, stock, and barrel. Theoretically the lenses should fit and may work on manual, but I'm very sure they will not totally work on sony digital cameras. I wouldn't even try to fit them as the autofocus system on the camera may be damaged.
