Question about Computers & Internet

Hard Drive Hello, out of nowhere when I turned on my computer it acted normally with the hp icon and then it went to the black screen and said "Disk Drive Error Occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." It didn't make sense because last time I used my computer it was working perfectly. I think it might have something to do with the hard drive because I tried to reinstall Windows XP and it said there was no hard drive found. There is also a clicking sound where the hard drive is.

I left my PC on overnight and when I looked at it this a.m. it has a black screen and says "the hard drive can not be found..."

I turned off and turned back on and it has the same screen with a clicking sound coming from the processor. I did open my cd/dvd drives and found a cd in both drives. My son in law had used the PC previously about two weeks ago and had done some copying evidently. But last night when I was using it I did some work on it and it was fine. I did not shut down or anything. So I'm confused. No one here to bother it. Help! I have work to do on it this weekend. Thanks!

"non-stystem disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready"

Sounds to me like the hard drive has gone out on it.

If you turn the laptop over you will see a couple panels that can be removed... There will be one that has what looks like a circle type design by it that indicates hard drive access... If you cannot find this icon its not a big deal as the screws are just phillip head screws..
1. Remove panels
2. Verify Hard Drive is seated properly. (Might disconnect then reconnect to make sure)
3. If you can tell the make and model of hard drive this would be a good time to write it down. (I.E. Toshiba, Western Digital, Seagate)
4. Replace panel

Try booting the computer again. If the problem continues then you need to online and do a google search for hard drive diagnostic bootable disc for your hard drive. Most of these programs are universal and can do a cross platform basic checks on hard drives.
To go into more detailed diagnostic you are best to use the software designed by the maker of the hard drive.

1. Download test disc and burn
2. Boot laptop from cd-rom using bootable test disc
3. Run diagnostics.

If it fails then you have a bad hard drive and you will need to replace the drive.

Laptop won'y start up has non-system disk or disk error

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Not getting a start up screen. Started out just getting the "swirly" background pic with no icons and when I tried rebooting, even that was gone. Now I just get a blank screen.

hi, just sorted mine out. you have a problem with your hard disk . When you turn your ps3 on hold the power button down for 5 seconds until you hear a beep. My screen went black. now turn it off and restart it normally and it will reload your hard drive and hopefully have your problem sorted.

it sounds like your hard drive is having issues. it may not be dead, but one of your boot files is corrupted. try starting the computer from your windows disk. and select the repair option. if you cant get any farther or get a read error your hard drive is dead.

When i go to start the computer (laptop), the normal HP symbol appears, then is says 1) fix problems (reccommended) and 2) start normally.. and at the top of the page says there is a possible error with...

what error message is on the blue screen?

It is possible with a windows disk to do a repair on the operating system without losing your data and programs. However if the hard drive is crashed (physically damaged), the repair mentioned above won't save it.

Some HP's have a built-in restore of windows, accessed by a function key, but beware, it may erase the hard drive before the re-install of windows.

Screen wont light up

Try booting up with your OS disk in (ie. your windows vista disk), this will bootup your computer with basic drivers installed. If your screen shows anything, then there is a driver issue, if not its a hardware issue and most likely will have to be replaced.

Won't boot.

Hello Lunartiger, i have one suggestion. My 4 year old toshiba satellite has had the same problem (almost.....). It would not boot or format. the hard drive's running sound was weird. It would do tic-tic-tic... instead of the normal chirrrrrrr.... I thought the hard drive was broken . So i went to a computer shop and replaced its original toshiba hard drive with a cheap refurbished Fujitsu hard drive. It's been working well(maybe faster) since then. If your hard drive sounds different then before, consider buying a new one. search the web for your laptop's motherboard to see where the CMOS bettery is. I used irisvista.com for my laptop but they might not have hp laptops there
