I have a 2HP Pentair Whisperflow pump that has stopped working after only 2 years. When I turn it on, it just makes a humming noise even though the impeller is free. Any ideas?

It could be the pump is bound up but it is more likely the motor is failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft where it passes thru the pump and motor and look for signs of rust from a pump seal leak.

If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage.

My Pentair pump is just 2 years old and it was working good yesterday I turned off I turned it on in now it humms for a minute or 2 then it just turns off completely how do I fix this

motors that hum indicate 2 things
seized pump or failed start /run capacitor
as it was running recently I would be checking the capacitor
the stopping altogether may be the thermal overload switch cutting in because of the high current draw from the failed capacitor

Pump makes humming noise impeller spins slowly

sounds as if pump has stuck start winding switch , try giving Motor not the pump a sharp knock with a rubber mallet when you 1st turn on , this might jar it loose if not a new motor might be needed , if motor was larger then say 2hp then id say get it fixed at a motor repair shop due to cost saving but smaller sizes it's not worth it most times

Whisperflow pump making loud squealing noise

The noise is likely either the seal or a bearing in that order. If you are mechanically capable of working on the pump yourself then you can purchase a seal and gaskets at a pool supply store. If the bearings are bad then the motor needs to be replaced. In some cases a bearing can be replaced but usually it is more work than it is worth.

Whisperflow 1.5 pump is drawing 1/4 volume of water.

With the pump off, take out the pump basket and with your fingers
feel the front of the impeller you may have something blocking it.
