Question about Navman iCN 520 GPS Receiver
I have icn520 - bought an external aerial for it off e-bay now get full strength signal evertytime within seconds - well worth about a tenner rather than ditching the 520 which is was about to do!
It was the windscreen causing the problem for me

I have had the same issue.
You need to make sure that you are using it outside the first time you search for the sats. It can take up to 15 mins to get a set lock depending on the strength of signal you get in your area.
If you are near an airport or military installation then you will possibly get restricted signal anyway as GPS signals are less powerful near these installations.
I tried mine (from a completely cold start) and it did not find any sats at all. I was in the house at the time with the unit suckered to the window, but this did not help either.
If you are behinf athermic glass, this can also cause problems. Try it outside some time and see if it gets a lock.
Hope this helps.
