It sound like you have a Moen Posi-temp faucet and the handle is broken. It is probably an acrylic hdle with a tear drop shaped cover. Take a knife and slide it under the cover to pry it off. Unscrew the center screw and the handle will pull right off. You will see two shoulders inside the hdle, one of which will be cracked and broken. Replace the hndle which can be purchased at any Lowes or Home Depot. Plumbing supplies also carry replacements, but you can probably get one cheaper at HD or Lowes.. Make sure to use the washer provided. It has two flats on the inside of washer. Slide this over the brass stem on your cartridge, NOT on the hdle screw. Install it with the flats of the cartridge in horiz. position. Try faucet. If the water comes out in the opposite temp you expect, warm is cold, and cold is warm, remove the hdle, spin the stem 180 degrees and reinstall hdle.Good luck!
if you have a single handle tub valve and it starts to not work properly for instance if its gettin less hot water and more cold water it may be time to replace the mixet stem ,what you will need a flat head screw driver a philips head screw driver a pair of needlenose and a pair of channel locks turn off the water main to your home, remove the handle there is a clip at top remove the keeper clip then pull out the old stem take it to your home depot get a new one also get some stem grease to put around the black rubber o rings so your stem last for a long time the grease is also for the handle turns eazy put back in put clip back just remember how you took old one out so it is in the same position turn water main back on and try it out
Turn your water off at the main line. remove both faucet stems, take them to Lowes or Home Depot and get a repair kit. Follow the ininstruction and replace the stems and turn your back on.
You need to take the handle off...ususally held on with a small allen screw on the bottom side of the handle. After removing the handle there should be a dial setting.
the problem is the hot/cold mix is set wrong ---
remove the water control handle to expose the mix valve -- you should see a small set screw that will either increase or decrease the travel of the hot water valve. --- sometimes instead of a set screw there is a little pop off plastic set ring,, pop off and set to a more advanced travel.
this will increase the amount of hot water that flows to the shower head and the bath tap.
I have to assume you've unscrewed the face plate, not removed it, because you can't do that without taking the handle off. Delta handle usually come off by unscrewing an allen (set) screw just under the handle itself. Sometimes these are covered by a plastic plug.
Occasionally, even after you've completely removed the set screw, the handle still won't come off. Wiggling and pulling for a few minutes will generally get it off. If not, then a hacksaw, new handle and new cartridge are the answer.
If the allen screw is stripped and that's why it won't ome off, see above.
First determind what side is dripping(hot/cold) then turn off water to entire house unless you have separate shutoff for shower behind wall. take a screw driver remove handle then use channel lock pliers to remove stem on the bottom side of the stem there will be a screw with a rubber washer on it you must remove the screw and replace the washer them re assemble Oh go to home depot and buy a the assorted pack of washer for faucets and stems find one that fits the pack cost about 4.99 best to change both rubber seal washer on hot and cold sinc e you have the water off
The screws remove the handle. After the handle is removed their are little plastic like gears to limit th ehot watr. Relocate the gear ring for more hot water.
