The windows might be corrupted. You could try editing the windows registry. here are the steps:

In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

last option, you could try installing imgburn. here's the download link: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If nothing happens, your dvd drive is bad.

Good Luck,

Ryan

A friend has the following problem on his PC and i am trying to help: The PC tag is 1J4242J and operating system is Windows XP The dvd drive is not performing correctly. When using Roxio it will not...

Hi
First,we need to narrow the problem down.Does the problem come up only when using Roxio,or also if you put in a disk and in My Computer,Windows isn't able to read it?
Have you tried using a CD/DVD cleaning disk?
The link is to Dell's Software/driver download page for this specific computer (Thanks for the Service Tag #) and it should go directly to the optical drive section.Up toward the top of the page,read the installation instructions,and see if the firmware update available has a date more recent than when the machine was purchased.If so,download and install the firmware following the instructions.
You can also download any other driver updates you may want to install(your friend,it's just easier to use you).Look to the column on the left side for manuals,troubleshooting etc.
Use system restore to set a restore point before installing any updates,just in case.
Also,I'm including a link to Microsoft.They have an online troubleshooting service that can fix many CD/DVD drive issues,give that a try as well.
Lastly,try Roxio for updates or patches for your version of the software.There may be a patch or fix that's been developed,it's frequent that they find and fix compatibility problems with different drives.
If this helps you,would you rate my post please?
Thanks
Bob

Roxio media manager trys to install on my desktop

If you have the Roxio installation CD:
Insert the Roxio CD into the drive and allow it to complete.

-- or --
UN-install it and then re-install it.
[Start]
[Control Panel]
[Add or Remove programs]
Locate the Roxio Media Manager and click the [Change/Remove] button and "remove" it.
Re-boot
It is gone.
If you want to install it (yes you do) the insert the CD and install.
re-boot

I purchased a Dell Computer back in 2004 which came with Sonic Digital Media Plus v7. My PC has Windows XP Operating System. A few days ago I decided to install Version 6.0 of Roxios Easy CD/DVD Burning...

Try uninstalling Roxio and the Sonic drives and run Fixit. Then reboot and install Roxio first then the Sonic driver.
If this doesn't work uninstall again as previously, install Roxio and check the CD/DVD if necessary run Fixit then install Sonic driver.

Roxio Media Manager continues to try to install

Hello,

After reading your problem I came across some interesting references about roxio and agent.exe.
Seems agent.exe is used by many programs to update themselves over the internet, and it was giving a lot of people headaches by using 70% or more of their CPU, like yourself.

So, I wanted to send you a few quick thoughts on how to hopefully fix your situation.

First, there were complaints about stuff trying to install itself on and on, and it was because there were command lines in the STARTUP MENU calling upon them to install every time windows starts.

So to try to fix this if its happening in your case........
Go to start>run>and type in msconfig and click ok.
Now click startup and uncheck these items.

issch
ISUSPM
'ISUSPM Start Up'
'ISUSSCheduler'
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
Quick Time Task
Igfxtray
HotKeysCmds
MSMSGS
WMPNFCSG
COMMUNICATOR
PERSISTENCE (igfxpers)
DLA

Then click apply, then ok and restart your computer.
When windows starts, you will see a window saying that changes were made to the configuration utility. When you see it, click on the little white box saying not to show this any more.
And if you really miss not having something you unchecked, you can always go back there and recheck it!

Maybe now you will have the chance to purge all things Roxio from your system.
Best of luck!!

Having installed Roxio Creator 10, I get a recurring message: "RoxMMTrayApp Module has encountered a problem and needs to close." Etc. It occurs even when I am not editing with that software. ...

ROXIO Multi Media Tray Application Module Has Encountered a problem and needs to close.

This Means ROXIO Creator 10 Try Application Encountered an error.

And since it happens while burning a disc

You should

1. Uninstall ROXIO Creator 10 , and reinstall it to make sure nothing is corupted.

2. If you still get the same problem it's time to check your intire system for errors.

This can mean you will need to take trouble shooting steps.

1. Use another burning program to see if you can burn without errors.

2. if you can burn fine with another burning program like NERO then chances are
you have an incompatability with ROXIO Creator 10 and should consult the documentation
to see if your drive is actually supported by it.

Do these things weed hopper and all will be well with you.
