Not able to connect to projector

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Connect laptop to external lcd monitor

This laptop has a blue VGA port. Plug your monitor into it. You might have to adjust the BIOS to recognize the external device.
Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display. The key sequence can vary depending on laptop, however is often either: Fn + F3, F4, F5,F8, or F9. This means if you were fore example to press and hold Fn + F3 at the same time it'd switch between your laptop display to your external display. The function key will often be labeled as CRT/LCD and/or have a picture of a monitor on the key or close to the key. Unfortunately, the keys pressed to switch displays is dependent on the model and manufacturer of the laptop. If none of the above key sequences work, consult your laptop documentation or consult your laptop manufacturer.
Some laptops also have the ability to have the display on both the laptop and external display and/or one or the other at a single time. Laptops with this ability can switch between these modes by continuing to press the same function keys until in the mode the user wants.

If none, try to power drain the machine by unplugging ac adapter and removing the battery.Press and hold the power button for 10 secs and then after that put the battery back and plug in ac adapter.Press power button and then check if you will see anything on the screen,if still the same then try to connect the laptop to a external monitor and then press FN+F5 to switch display to external monitor, if you see something on the ext monitor it means you are dealing with a faulty lcd on your laptop...Hope this helps...

When I connect my aspire 5315 to the tv and boot the computer it shows the boot on the tv but suddenly stops when the computer comes up and does not show the monitor again. I press Fn f4 and nothing...

Fn + F5 is what changes external display mode on acer laptops. Press and hold Fn, then press and release F5 to change between three modes:
Laptop display only.
Both displays.
External display only.
OR....
You need to go into your display properties and extend your desktop onto the external monitor. If this doesn't solve it, let me know :)

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Swithcing from laptop screen to lcd monitor

Hi
Connect the monitor, flat panel, or projector to the laptop's 15-pin video connection on the back of the computer as shown to the right. Once connected, your laptop may automatically switch to the new external display or you may be required to press a sequence of keys in order to switch from the laptop to the external display. video.gif For example, often either Fn + F3, Fn + F5, Fn + F8, or Fn + F9 is pressed to switch between alternate displays. So if your laptop was Fn + F3, pressing and holding both Fn and F3 at the same time would switch between displays. Often, the alternate key pressed in conjunction with the Fn key will be labeled as CRT/LCD and/or have a picture of a monitor on the key or close to the key.
